In his opening remarks at the Roundtable Discussion, Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh – Vice President of the National Economics University emphasized the significance of strengthening the connection between educational institutions and enterprises in the context of vigorous digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and digital economy. According to Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh, “high-quality human resources are the key factor” to promote the digital economy associated with sustainable development goals. Vietnam has many advantages to exploit the potential of the digital economy, but it also poses an urgent requirement for a workforce not only with digital capabilities but also with adaptability, innovative thinking, creativity, and social responsibility.
From this requirement, Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh also affirmed the pioneering role of the National Economics University in training and research in economics, management, and related fields; particularly in implementing the Digital Economy academic program. According to the Vice President, developing human resources for the digital economy requires close coordination between the State, enterprises, and educational institutions, thereby linking training with practical needs and labor market movements. The National Economics University is committed to continuing to innovate its academic programs, enhance technology application, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, contributing to preparing a workforce capable of adapting and meeting development requirements in the new era.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Bach Tuyet – Head of the Faculty of Management Information Systems presents a paper “Training High-Quality Human Resources for the Digital Economy at the National Economics University”
From the perspective of training human resources for the digital economy sector, Dr. Nguyen Thi Bach Tuyet – Head of the Faculty of Management Information Systems at the National Economics University (NEU) shared a paper titled “Training High-Quality Human Resources for the Digital Economy at NEU.” The paper outlines the rapid changes in the digital economy and the new demands placed on human resources, while also sharing NEU’s approach and training orientation to meet the shifts in the labor market in the digital era.
According to Dr. Nguyen Thi Bach Tuyet, the rapid development of data, digital platforms, artificial intelligence (AI), GenAI, and digital business models is transforming the way businesses create and deliver value. This change leads to a shift from single-discipline human resources to interdisciplinary human resources, capable of integrating knowledge of economics, technology, and data.
Dr. Nguyen Thi Bach Tuyet also emphasized that human resources for the digital economy need to be equipped with four core competencies, including data-driven thinking and evidence-based decision-making; digital technology, AI/GenAI capabilities, and digital platform exploitation; business acumen, innovation, and digital transformation management; along with continuous learning ability to adapt to the rapid pace of technological change. In this approach, the digital economy is identified as a field at the intersection of economics, digital technology, and data.
From an interdisciplinary approach, the paper introduces the ecosystem and academic programs in the Digital Economy sector at NEU, with training content linked to core digital economy, foundational digital economy, and sectoral digital economy. The program focuses on strengthening the connection between economics, management, technology, and data; integrating AI/GenAI as a cross-cutting capability; enhancing data-driven analysis and decision-making skills; and increasing business involvement from program design to outcome evaluation. International standards, English proficiency, professional certifications, and lifelong learning capabilities are also emphasized, aiming to train human resources capable of creating, operating, and leading value in the digital economy.

Mr. Nguyen Thai Dung – Director of Business and Retail Division, BRG Group presented the paper “Recruitment Needs and Professional Competency Requirements for Digital Economy Personnel”
From the practical perspective of businesses, Mr. Nguyen Thai Dung – Director of the Business and Retail Division, BRG Group shared insights on recruitment needs and competency requirements for digital economy personnel. Through the practical digital transformation in the retail sector at BRG, Mr. Nguyen Thai Dung emphasized the viewpoint “Technology is a tool – People are the focus,” as digital transformation is not merely about integrating technology into business operations but more importantly about enhancing the capabilities of the workforce.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thai Dung, the development of technology is significantly changing the content and methods of work: repetitive tasks are increasingly automated, AI assists in forecasting, while humans focus more on handling situations and tasks requiring judgment. This reality calls for increased collaboration between universities and businesses in training digital economy human resources, so that students are not only equipped with technological knowledge but also have the ability to apply technology, data, and AI to solve real business problems. “Technology can be purchased. Competence must be trained” – a message emphasized by Mr. Nguyen Thai Dung when discussing the preparation of human resources for the digital economy.

Mr. Bui Hai Nam – Finan Capital presented the paper “Digital Economy through Practical Technology Products: Technology, Data, and Business Value”
Continuing the business perspective, Mr. Bui Hai Nam – Co-founder & CEO of Finan Capital, an alumnus of the Faculty of Economic Informatics, NEU shared practical experiences accumulated across various fields from banking, e-commerce, multi-channel sales, logistics to Fintech. With the viewpoint “start from the root – digitize the seller,” Mr. Bui Hai Nam analyzed how the digital economy creates value through three practical cases at Finan, demonstrating the journey from data, technology application to forming business value.
From this practical experience, Mr. Bui Hai Nam emphasized the need for human resources capable of understanding both business and technology, with sufficient capacity to participate in building and operating future digital infrastructures. This is also the basis for Finan to strengthen its connection with NEU in training digital economy human resources, with three areas of collaboration including creating internship and job opportunities for students; collaborating with the Faculty in building digital capabilities for businesses; and partnering in consulting and implementing digital transformation activities in practice.
