Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025)

Eighty years ago, August 19, 1945, entered the glorious history of the Vietnamese nation as a shining milestone: the August Revolution triumphed, and the first democratic state of workers and peasants in Southeast Asia was established, opening a new era of national independence linked to socialism. From that point onward, our people broke free from the shackles of colonial and feudal enslavement to become masters of their country and their own destiny. The victory of the August Revolution was a triumph of patriotism and the strength of great national unity under the sound and skillful leadership of the Party and the great President Ho Chi Minh.

Following the success of the August Revolution, on September 2, 1945, at historic Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, proclaiming the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and transforming our country from a semi-feudal colony into an independent, free, and democratic nation. The Declaration of Independence states: “Vietnam has the right to enjoy freedom and independence and has in fact become a free and independent country. The entire Vietnamese nation is determined to commit all its resolve and strength, its lives and property, to safeguarding that freedom and independence.”

The glorious victory of the August Revolution and the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam provided an immense source of strength and an important foundation for our nation’s successive victories in its great wars of resistance for national salvation, defeating old and new colonialism, completing the national and people’s democratic revolution, and leading the entire country toward socialism. Over the past 80 years, our Party has consistently devoted attention to building a state of the people, by the people, and for the people. Our country’s standing and strength have continued to grow, the economy’s material and technical foundations have been strengthened, and the environment for peace and cooperation has expanded. Our state has been progressively consolidated toward ever greater integrity and strength.

The 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2 is also an occasion for the entire Party, people, and armed forces to commemorate 56 years of implementing President Ho Chi Minh’s Testament and the 56th anniversary of his passing. He was the father of the nation and the brilliant leader of our Party and people. We take ever greater pride in our glorious homeland, the great Communist Party of Vietnam, our beloved Uncle Ho, and our heroic armed forces and people, who have striven throughout history to overcome every difficulty and hardship to regain independence, freedom, and national reunification, creating new standing and strength to advance our country toward the successful building of socialism.

Carrying forward the spirit of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, the Party Organization of National Economics University (NEU) remains steadfast in its confidence in the Party’s leadership. It consistently stands united in effort and purpose, comprehensively advances the renewal process, and continues along the glorious revolutionary path chosen by President Ho Chi Minh, our Party, and our nation.

The commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025) is an occasion for the entire Vietnamese nation to better understand the historical and practical value of the August Revolution. It is also an opportunity to fully recognize the responsibility of today’s generation to apply and build upon the valuable lessons of the August Revolution and of more than 80 years of national construction and defense in advancing the country’s industrialization, modernization, and international integration toward the goal of a prosperous people and a strong, democratic, equitable, and civilized nation. It is an occasion to turn the glorious achievements of the past into the driving force for fulfilling the historic mission in a new era—an era of the Vietnamese nation’s rise, flourishing development, civilization, happiness, and prosperity.
