At the reception, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomed Prof. Dr. Qiu Yong and the Tsinghua University delegation on their visit to Vietnam to work with relevant ministries, sectors, localities and universities to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in education, training and scientific research.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Vietnam and China are neighboring socialist countries connected by mountains and rivers, with a long-standing tradition of friendship. President Ho Chi Minh, Chairman Mao Zedong and earlier generations of revolutionary leaders of the two Parties and countries established and nurtured the “deep Vietnam–China friendship, as both comrades and brothers.”
Congratulating and commending Tsinghua University and its Vietnamese partners on the positive outcomes of their cooperation in recent years, the Prime Minister emphasized that the signing of cooperation documents on this occasion by Tsinghua University and three leading Vietnamese universities—Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; and NEU—not only helps promote exchanges and cooperation between the two sides but also opens up valuable opportunities for Vietnamese students, lecturers and PhD candidates to gain greater access to advanced knowledge, particularly Tsinghua University’s outstanding scientific achievements.
The Prime Minister emphasized that, guided by the traditional belief that “talented and virtuous people are the lifeblood of the nation,” Vietnam’s Party and State attach great importance to education and have consistently identified it as a “top national priority.” The 13th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam identified human resource development, particularly the development of high-quality human resources, as one of three strategic breakthroughs for the country’s rapid and sustainable development.
The Prime Minister called on Tsinghua University to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Vietnamese educational institutions and research agencies in the coming period, and to offer more scholarships and opportunities for Vietnamese lecturers, students, scientists and experts to study, conduct research and enhance their qualifications at Tsinghua University.
