Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh, Head of the Department of Research Management, delivers the opening remarks.

In his opening remarks at the seminar, Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh, Head of the Department of Research Management, representing NEU’s leadership, emphasized the University’s goals and policy direction for the coming period: to continually improve the quality of publications in international journals, thereby affirming the University’s standing and reputation both nationally and internationally.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hung, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Economics and Development, shares his insights at the program.

At the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hung, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Economics and Development at NEU, shared practical insights and the perspectives of editors-in-chief of scholarly journals around the world. According to Assoc. Prof. Hung, international publishing has become a “shared playing field” worldwide, particularly for universities. However, it is important to “play fair,” striving for quality and a scholarly reputation grounded in proper standards. There are currently many different scholarly journals worldwide, serving as academic forums for researchers. Journals focusing on basic research are more numerous and often have higher standing than applied research journals. A focus on basic research therefore offers a sustainable direction and enhances researchers’ reputations.

However, to publish in basic research journals, researchers submitting articles to international journals need to correctly understand the “preferences” of editors-in-chief and those responsible for overseeing peer review. Scholarly and theoretical contributions are common “preferences” among basic research journals today.

In addition to quality content, Assoc. Prof. Hung also highlighted standards of research and publication ethics. Violating these ethical principles can lead to poor-quality research findings, with ripple effects on subsequent generations of researchers. Such violations can also directly affect the reputations and academic careers of researchers who publish internationally, as well as the reputations of the universities and organizations where they work.

The seminar drew many contributions and additional insights from researchers within and outside NEU.
