National Economics University Organizes a Series of Interdisciplinary Scientific Conferences on Technology and Digital Transformation

On the morning of December 23, 2025, National Economics University (NEU) organized two closely connected and mutually complementary interdisciplinary national scientific conferences: “Automatic Multi-Document Summarization Solutions Using Pretrained Language Models and Deep Learning and Their Applications in Education” and “Developing Human Resources for Digital Transformation in State-Owned Enterprises in Vietnam.”

An overview of the conference

External delegates attending the conferences included Dang Tung Anh, Deputy Director of the Center for Technology and Digital Government, National Digital Transformation Agency (Ministry of Science and Technology); Kieu Cong Thuoc, Chairman of the Board of Directors of VNFUND; Mai Linh Giang, Director of the Center for Human Resource Development and Deputy Head of the Human Resources Division of VNPT Group; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Hoang Son, International Advanced Research Center for Applied AI (AIRC), Institute of Information Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Nguyen Hai Dang, Center for Smart Health, Institute of Engineering and Computer Science, VinUNI University; and Luu Trung Nguyen, Director of AI Product Research and Development, SotaTek Technology Group.

Representing NEU were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President of NEU; Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy, President of the College of Technology, NEU; leadership representatives from colleges, departments, faculties, institutes, and centers; and scientists, lecturers, and experts from within and outside the University.

Speaking at the conferences, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President of NEU, said: “As the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digital transformation advance rapidly, data and digital knowledge have become strategic resources that determine the competitiveness, management efficiency, and human resource quality of every organization, enterprise, and nation. For this reason, researching, developing, and applying modern artificial intelligence technologies, particularly pretrained language models and deep learning techniques, has not only academic significance but also substantial practical value for education and the development of human resources for digital transformation in the digital era.”

In response to these realities, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu noted that NEU had organized two closely connected and mutually complementary interdisciplinary national scientific conferences: “Automatic Multi-Document Summarization Solutions Using Pretrained Language Models and Deep Learning and Their Applications in Education” and “Developing Human Resources for Digital Transformation in State-Owned Enterprises in Vietnam.” According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, the conferences provided an opportunity for scientists, lecturers, experts, and managers to discuss and share new research findings, helping connect advanced technology research with the practical needs of education and human resource development in the context of national digital transformation.

Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy, President of the College of Technology, NEU, presents the paper “From Linear Regression to Transformer: A Journey of More Than a Century of Machine Learning Models”

In recent years, rapid advances in pretrained language models, large language models, and deep learning techniques have led to major breakthroughs in natural language processing. These models enable computers to better grasp the context and meaning of texts while synthesizing information from multiple sources and formats to produce concise summaries that capture the broader picture. As a result, the quality, accuracy, and applicability of multi-document summarization continue to improve.

However, at the conference “Automatic Multi-Document Summarization Solutions Using Pretrained Language Models and Deep Learning and Their Applications in Education,” experts noted that multi-document summarization remains an open problem, presenting numerous challenges that require further research and refinement. These include ensuring semantic consistency, eliminating duplication, limiting information distortion, and evaluating summary quality in different contexts of use. In particular, applying these research findings to education, supporting the development of smart learning materials, and assisting teaching, learning, and scientific research require solutions with solid scientific foundations that align with educational practice in the new era.

The conference is expected to establish an in-depth academic forum where scientists, lecturers, researchers, and experts can discuss and share new research findings, advanced approaches, and practical application experience. In doing so, the conference helps connect research with application and promotes innovation in education as the sector undergoes a rapid shift toward digitalization and the use of smart technologies.

Meanwhile, at the national scientific conference “Developing Human Resources for Digital Transformation in State-Owned Enterprises in Vietnam,” experts noted that state-owned enterprises, given their core role in many key sectors and fields of the economy, are expected to lead digital transformation. However, many experts identified human resources as one of the largest “bottlenecks” hindering this process. Many state-owned enterprises still face shortages in both the quantity and quality of digital personnel; their management teams have not kept pace with management requirements in a digital environment; and their capacity for innovation has not been adequately harnessed.

Experts present papers at the conference

The experts agreed that digital transformation can only truly succeed when closely linked to a human resource development strategy. Alongside technology teams, state-owned enterprises need to pay particular attention to developing digital management and innovation personnel—people capable of leading change and making decisions amid considerable volatility and uncertainty.

In the national digital transformation strategy, the Government has emphasized the need to develop high-quality human resources as an important pillar. However, for digital human resources to become a competitive advantage, experts recommended a coordinated framework tailored to the institutional characteristics of state-owned enterprises; stronger training and retraining linked to practice; and improved mechanisms and policies to attract, retain, and effectively harness human resources for digital transformation.

Developing human resources for digital transformation is therefore not merely an internal task for each state-owned enterprise, but also a key factor in advancing the digital economy and enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam’s economy in the coming years.

The conference is expected to serve as an open forum for experts and scientists to discuss and clarify issues surrounding the development of human resources for digital transformation, share experience, and suggest suitable solutions for human resource development, not only in the state-owned enterprise sector but also for the many enterprises currently undertaking digital transformation.

Dr. Nguyen Trung Tuan, Vice President of the College of Technology, delivers the concluding remarks and closes the conference
