The air quality monitoring
system IQ Air once ranked Hanoi as the most polluted city in the world. The U.S.
EPI report also ranked Vietnam among the top 10 countries with the highest levels of air
pollution in Asia. These rankings
highlight a major issue today: air quality in
general, and in major cities in particular, is deteriorating severely.
Air quality is affected by dust and emissions generated by
socioeconomic development activities, transportation, and other sources. Among these,
emissions from motorized road vehicles, particularly
cars and motorcycles, are the leading cause, contributing up to 70% of total dust
and emissions released into the air. Air pollution is
affecting people’s living environment and health, posing a difficult challenge for
policymakers. So what needs to be done to address this pollution problem?
