Conference to Review Quality Accreditation Work Under FIBAA Standards
On the afternoon of October 25, 2024, National Economics University (NEU) held a conference in Hai Phong City to review quality accreditation work under FIBAA standards.
An overview of the dialogue
Attending the conference were Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President of NEU; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President of NEU; Dr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the NEU Trade Union; representatives of the leadership of schools, departments, faculties, institutes, and centers; and teams and individuals involved in FIBAA accreditation work.
NEU is one of the first universities in Vietnam to complete the FIBAA quality accreditation process with 100% of criteria meeting or exceeding standards. FIBAA assesses criteria such as lecturer quality, the quality of support for learners, academic programs, practical applicability, and the quality of facilities and services against very high and rigorous requirements. Institutional accreditation by the education accreditation organization FIBAA has affirmed NEU’s success in continuously ensuring and improving educational quality. It also further enhances benefits for learners, including credit recognition and transfer, applications for admission to higher levels of study at leading prestigious universities worldwide, and employment opportunities in developed countries.
Dr. Dam Son Toai, Head of the Department of Testing and Educational Quality Assurance, presents the report on institutional and academic program quality accreditation under FIBAA standards.
Educational quality accreditation activities under FIBAA standards have been underway at NEU since early 2022. By March 2024, the University had completed the institutional quality accreditation process, and by September 2024, it had completed the quality accreditation process for 15 academic programs. To date, NEU has 20 programs accredited under the standards of ACBSP, United States; 15 programs accredited under the standards of FIBAA, Federal Republic of Germany; and 16 academic programs accredited under domestic standards.
In 2024, NEU continues to implement external assessment processes for 21 academic programs under FIBAA standards and 12 academic programs under domestic standards. By the end of the first quarter of 2025, 84 academic programs are expected to be accredited under various sets of accreditation standards, accounting for 50% of the University’s total academic programs.
To date, only 11 higher education institutions nationwide, including NEU, have been accredited by international education quality accreditation organizations.
Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU, delivers remarks.
Speaking at the conference, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU, acknowledged the efforts and solidarity of NEU’s faculty and staff throughout the accreditation process and external assessment activities. The University had earlier been officially awarded certificates of institutional accreditation and accreditation for 15 academic programs by Diane Freiberger, Managing Director of FIBAA.
Prof. Pham Hong Chuong emphasized that educational quality assurance, quality accreditation, and university rankings are ongoing and urgent activities to ensure and improve the University’s educational quality to meet national and international quality standards. FIBAA’s standards provide a solid foundation for NEU to comprehensively assess its activities and those of each academic program, particularly teaching and learning processes.
The President expressed his hope that units would focus on implementing quality improvements based on recommendations from FIBAA expert panels to finalize the evidence for submission to FIBAA before June 12, 2025.
Delegates discuss and share experiences in conducting quality accreditation work in accordance with FIBAA regulations.
Also at the conference, University leaders presented certificates of merit to teams and individuals for their outstanding achievements in institutional and academic program quality accreditation under FIBAA standards.
