On August 10, 2026, within the framework of the Vietnam – Australia TechConnect Forum at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), representatives from the National Economics University and the University of Adelaide exchanged a Credit Transfer Agreement signed by the leadership of both universities, officially establishing a transfer pathway for students from NEU to one of Australia’s leading universities. The agreement also lays the foundation for further expanding credit transfer pathways and aims to develop dual-degree programs in the future.

The event marks a new development in the collaborative relationship between the National Economics University and the University of Adelaide, while continuing to expand NEU’s network of prestigious international partners, creating additional opportunities for students to access high-quality international educational environments.

Milestone in Educational Collaboration at the Vietnam – Australia TechConnect Forum 2026

The Vietnam – Australia TechConnect Forum was held on August 10, 2026, at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training, management agencies, universities, research institutes, and the business community of both countries. The event also featured an exhibition to promote the image of Vietnamese education and the achievements of Vietnam – Australia educational collaboration.

At the Forum, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu – Vice President of the National Economics University and Prof. Lori Hocking – Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Partnerships at the University of Adelaide, represented both parties in exchanging the Credit Transfer Agreement. Previously, the Agreement was signed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho – President of the National Economics University and Prof. Jessica Gallagher – Deputy Vice-Chancellor for International and External Engagement at the University of Adelaide.

The exchange of the Agreement within the framework of the educational, scientific, technological, and innovation connection event between Vietnam and Australia holds practical significance, marking a transition from cooperative orientations between the two universities to specific learning opportunities for students. The Agreement thereby contributes to expanding the international learning space, enhancing connectivity in education, and facilitating students’ access to diverse academic experiences in a global educational environment.

Connecting NEU with a Top 100 World University and a Go8 Leading Australian University

The University of Adelaide is a new Australian university, formed by the merger of the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia, inheriting the strengths, resources, and academic heritage of these two prestigious higher education institutions.

The University of Adelaide is ranked 79th globally in the QS World University Rankings 2027. It is also a member of the Go8 (Group of Eight), an alliance of Australia’s leading research-intensive universities.

Establishing collaboration with the University of Adelaide not only expands NEU’s network of partners in Australia but also enhances the University’s connections with the ecosystem of leading research universities worldwide.

Specific Transition Pathway for NEU Students

According to the Agreement, NEU students who meet the academic, English proficiency, and related admissions requirements may have their completed credits at NEU recognized to continue their studies directly at the University of Adelaide, South Australia. Upon fulfilling all program requirements, students will be awarded a degree by the University of Adelaide.

Notably, the first approved credit transfer pathway is for students of NEU’s Bachelor of Science in Statistics and Business Intelligence program to transition to the Bachelor of Commerce program, majoring in Business Analytics at the University of Adelaide after completing the first two years at NEU (equivalent to 48 credits – the first year at the University of Adelaide). Transfer students will continue to complete the final two years at the University of Adelaide and receive a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in Business Analytics from the University of Adelaide.

Another important aspect is that the Agreement provides a framework for the two universities to continue developing, negotiating, and supplementing new credit transfer pathways during the collaboration period. This will gradually expand the opportunity for NEU students from other academic programs to transition to the University of Adelaide in the future.

From Credit Transfer to Future Dual Degree Programs

The significance of the Agreement lies not only in the established transition pathway. It also serves as an important academic and institutional foundation for NEU and the University of Adelaide to continue exploring the development of more extensive collaborative training models, including the potential establishment of Dual Degree programs in the future.

The effective implementation of the credit transfer pathway will help both universities gradually enhance compatibility between academic programs, mechanisms for recognizing academic results, and quality assurance systems. These are crucial conditions for moving towards more integrated collaborative training models, where students can study at both universities and, upon meeting all agreed program requirements, have the opportunity to receive degrees from both NEU and the University of Adelaide.

This direction also aligns with NEU’s internationalization strategy: transitioning from academic cooperation and exchange to building highly integrated international academic programs that provide specific and long-term value to learners.

Expanding International Learning Opportunities for NEU Students

The collaboration with the University of Adelaide continues to demonstrate NEU’s orientation in developing joint programs, credit recognition, and transition with internationally reputable higher education institutions.

Through credit transfer agreements, students can begin their studies at NEU, accumulating knowledge and credits in Vietnam before transitioning to an international educational environment. This approach not only affirms the compatibility and academic value of NEU’s curriculum but also creates additional flexible pathways for students to access high-quality international education.

The signing of the Agreement between the National Economics University (NEU) and the University of Adelaide at the Forum on Science and Technology, Innovation, Investment, Education and Training, and Human Resource Development between Vietnam and Australia not only marks a significant step forward in the relationship between the two universities but also contributes to promoting higher education connectivity between Vietnam and Australia amid the robust development of the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
