After a journey marked by resilience and determination, the Men’s Basketball Team of the National Economics University has triumphantly secured the national championship title in basketball at the 6th National University Sports Festival 2026 (NUC Basketball 2026). This remarkable achievement not only marks the first time NEU has reached the pinnacle of the tournament but also brings the national championship cup in the Men’s category to a Northern representative for the first time in five seasons.

In recognition and commendation of the team’s achievement, the National Economics University organized an award ceremony for the athletes and the coaching staff of the Men’s Basketball Team following their NUC Basketball 2026 championship victory.

In the final match held on September 11, the NEU Men’s Basketball Team faced off against the Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport (UTH) in a contest between student basketball representatives from the North and the South. With a resilient playing style and focused competitive spirit, the NEU players secured victory with a score of 67–60, officially claiming the national championship title.

The victory becomes even more meaningful when reflecting on NEU’s journey in this year’s tournament. In the regional round, the team had previously lost to the University of Transport (UTC) in the Northern final. Entering the National Finals, NEU once again faced defeat against this very opponent. However, instead of letting these less-than-ideal results affect their morale, the entire team persevered through challenges to reach the final match and conquer the championship.

Behind the 2026 achievement lies a persistent journey of NEU basketball over several years. In 2022, the team was halted at the Northern final; in 2023, they did not pass the regional qualifiers; in 2024, they did not participate in the tournament; by 2025, NEU reached the Northern semi-finals but did not meet expectations in the National Finals. These missed opportunities became experiences that allowed the team to gradually mature and create a historic milestone in this year’s season.

Notably, in the previous four seasons, the national men’s championship title was successively claimed by RMIT, Da Nang University, Hoa Sen University, and Da Nang University. Therefore, NEU’s victory in the fifth season not only marks the first time the National Economics University has reached the highest position in NUC Basketball but also signifies the first time a Northern student team has won the national men’s championship.

Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho, Party Secretary and Director of the National Economics University, acknowledged and commended the fighting spirit, unity, determination, and persistent efforts of the athletes and the coaching staff throughout their journey at NUC Basketball 2026. The Director emphasized that the championship is a proud accomplishment for the entire team and adds a meaningful mark to the sports movement and student life at the National Economics University.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho also expressed his hope that the team members will continue to uphold the spirit of determination, discipline, and unity demonstrated on the court; effectively balancing academics, training, and extracurricular activities, thereby spreading a positive spirit to the student community of the National Economics University.
