Nguyen Ngoc An represented the Vietnam National Union of Education Workers. Representing NEU was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, President of NEU. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that northern provinces and cities had been facing, and continued to face, particularly difficult days due to the severe impact of Storm No. 10. Alongside the wider damage, the education sector had also suffered extensive losses. According to initial information from several localities, thousands of schools had been damaged and millions of school students remained unable to attend school.

In response to this extensive damage and the appeal from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, MOET and the Vietnam National Union of Education Workers organized the campaign “Supporting People in Recovering from Storm No. 10.” The campaign reflects their sense of responsibility and solidarity with the nation in supporting northern provinces and cities, and the people, soldiers, teachers, and school students suffering hardship caused by storms and floods.

On behalf of MOET and the Vietnam National Union of Education Workers, Minister Nguyen Kim Son called on the entire education sector—officials, civil servants, public employees, staff, school and university students—as well as organizations and individuals within and outside the sector to join forces. He urged them to provide material and moral support, assistance, encouragement, and connections to help ease the hardships facing people in storm- and flood-affected areas in general, and the education sector in northern provinces and cities in particular.

The Minister stressed that aid should be delivered as quickly as possible immediately after the fundraising launch ceremony. Priority should be given to supporting people, first and foremost teachers and school students. These include teachers who have suffered losses and face difficulties with food, housing, and transportation, and school students who would be unable to continue attending school without assistance. The Minister also called on Departments of Education and Training and educational institutions to step up communication about assistance and contributions, including among school students.
