Conference to Review Short-Term Training in 2023
On the afternoon of January 4, 2024, National Economics University (NEU) held a conference to review short-term training in 2023.
Attending the conference were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President; MSc. Bui Duc Dung, Head of the Department of General Affairs; and leadership representatives from departments, faculties, institutes, centers, and units offering short-term training.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President of NEU, speaks at the conference.
Speaking at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong acknowledged and commended the results achieved over the past year by units involved in short-term training. He also discussed and provided specific guidance on proposals and recommendations previously raised by the units. The Vice President expressed his hope that in 2024, the units would continue to work side by side, collaborate, and support one another to achieve further success in the University’s short-term training.
MSc. Bui Duc Dung, Head of the Department of General Affairs, presents the report reviewing the management of short-term training and professional development in 2023 and outlining directions and tasks for 2024
The year 2023 was a year of economic recovery following the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which had constrained production and business activities for the vast majority of organizations and businesses and severely affected employment and income for most people. In addition, developments in domestic and international financial markets affected businesses, leading to reduced working hours and cuts in salaries and bonuses. As a result, requirements for short-term training and professional development became somewhat more stringent, with demands for higher quality and more competitive pricing.
The University’s capacity to invest in developing well-designed academic programs (with a complete structure, clear learning outcomes, detailed assessments aligned with learning outcomes, and a comprehensive system of learning materials) remained limited. In particular, the development of learning materials to meet online learning needs had not received adequate investment because of resource constraints. In addition, establishing connections with professional organizations to develop academic programs linked to professional certifications recognized in the labor market continued to face many difficulties related to collaboration and intense competition among units with the same training functions.
However, the University’s leadership provided support and created favorable conditions, while functional departments actively helped coordinate administrative procedures for the management and delivery of short-term training and professional development. The relevant units and individuals consistently provided support and favorable conditions to help short-term training across the University overcome difficulties, fully leverage its potential and strengths, and develop gradually.
The University also placed emphasis on the regulatory framework for short-term training. This included developing and issuing separate regulations for short-term training and professional development, providing guidance on developing well-designed academic programs, and creating a complete set of standardized forms for use throughout the University. The University’s academic programs have demonstrated their quality through strong practical applicability combined with modern training methods, delivering effective results and customer satisfaction. In particular, academic programs aimed at integration with professional certifications recognized by domestic professional organizations represent a step forward in linking training with business practice and equipping learners with stronger hands-on capabilities for the labor market.
The University’s reputation has given its units more opportunities to reach learners and respond to their needs, and to coordinate with local departments, agencies, and businesses to offer classes. The units have also brought together skilled experts from Vietnam and abroad to develop and teach high-quality, well-designed academic programs suited to various groups with training needs…
