Speaking at the gathering, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President, warmly commended the students for their efforts at ICPC 2024 and thanked the faculty members on the coaching team for their support and training, which helped the team achieve the best possible results. This was the first time an NEU ICPC team had surpassed universities with traditionally strong programming teams to win the championship.

Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Hieu shared that ICPC is the oldest, largest and most prestigious programming contest for university students worldwide, as well as the largest international event in Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region showcasing students’ talent and information technology skills. The Associate Professor and Vice President expressed his belief that this achievement would motivate the students to continue honing their skills and aim higher in the upcoming international rounds.

According to the results of the northern regional round held on October 26–27, 2024, the NEU team ranked #1 in the Non-Specialist Division and #55 in the Specialist Division. This year marked the first time in its history that NEU led both the Specialist and Non-Specialist Divisions in the regional ICPC contest.

The ICPC Asia Pacific Championship 2024 brings together the most outstanding information technology students from leading universities across the Asia-Pacific region. With experience hosting 17 regional contests (Regionals), Vietnam was honored to be nominated by Asia-Pacific countries, reflecting their confidence in the country, to host the inaugural ICPC Asia Pacific finals.

By participating in the contest, students can fully develop their creativity, demonstrate teamwork skills, foster innovation in developing software programs and test their ability to perform under intense time pressure.
