Scientific Seminar on AI in the Library Sector: Opening Opportunities and Shaping New Roles for Librarians in the Digital Era
On May 8, 2026, the Information and Library Center of National Economics University, in collaboration with the iGroup’s representative office in Vietnam, organized a scientific seminar themed “Navigating the AI Revolution: Opportunities and Challenges for Librarians.”
The event is part of the series of activities of the iGroup Southeast Asia Conference 2026, attracting the participation of managers, experts, and library personnel from Vietnam and Southeast Asia.
Attending the seminar, the main speakers included: Dr. Lee Chu Keoung from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. From iGroup: Ms. Ngo Thi To Hoa – National Director; Mr. Nguyen Hoang Quy – Business Director of iGroup Vietnam. From the National Economics University: Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat – Chairman of the Scientific and Training Council; MSc. Bui Thi Sen – Director of the Information and Library Center; along with representatives of the leadership from the University’s Schools, Departments, Faculties, Institutes, and Centers; as well as managers, experts, and library personnel from Vietnam and the region.
The seminar was organized to create an academic exchange forum, share experiences, and discuss the necessary competencies and skills of library staff in the context of rapidly developing artificial intelligence. Additionally, it served as an opportunity to introduce the modern information and library services model and role of the National Economics University to the library community both domestically and internationally.

In his opening remarks at the seminar, Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat – Chairman of the Scientific and Training Council of the National Economics University emphasized that the world is entering a profound transformation phase where artificial intelligence not only supports but also reshapes academic standards. In this context, the National Economics University identifies AI as a “core driver” for developing the educational ecosystem, with the university library playing a central role in knowledge and standing at a significant turning point.
Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat stated that the University has been orienting towards building the library according to the modern, intelligent “Digital Knowledge Center” model, not only limited to storage functions but also as a space for creativity, connection, and knowledge dissemination. The organization of this seminar is practically significant in connecting experts, sharing library operation experiences in the AI era, and helping librarians enhance their capabilities, proactively adapt, and effectively exploit new technologies.

At the seminar, the delegates focused on discussing the role of AI in library operations, the opportunities and challenges posed to library personnel, as well as solutions to enhance the quality of information services in the digital environment. The presentations and discussions contributed to clarifying the transformation trends of the university library system in the context of rapidly advancing technology.
Within the program framework, the delegates also visited National Economics University Library model – a modern knowledge space, demonstrating the University’s orientation towards digital transformation and innovative renewal.
The seminar concluded with many multidimensional perspectives and insights, contributing to promoting the connection and collaboration between library units in the region, while affirming the pioneering role of the National Economics University in applying technology, developing the digital knowledge ecosystem to meet the demands of the AI era.
