Press Release on the National Scientific Conference: Vietnam’s Economy in 2025 and Prospects for 2026 “Promoting Digital Economic Development in the New Era” and the Announcement of the Annual Vietnam Economic Review 2025 Publication

As per the annual tradition, National Economics University, in collaboration with the Central Policy and Strategy Committee and the Economic and Financial Committee of the National Assembly, organizes the National Scientific Conference to evaluate Vietnam’s economy in 2025 and its prospects for 2026, while also announcing the Annual Vietnam Economic Review 2025 publication by the National Economics University. This year’s theme for both the conference and the annual publication is “Annual Vietnam Economic Review 2025 – Promoting Digital Economic Development in the New Era”.

I. CONTEXT

In 2025, the global economy continues to operate amidst many uncertainties, with global inflation showing signs of cooling but still posing risks, slow recovery of growth, and increasing trends of economic fragmentation. Monetary policy management in major economies is cautious, while geopolitical tensions and the restructuring of global value chains continue to impact the growth prospects of many countries.

In this context, Vietnam’s economy in 2025 is expected to maintain its recovery and growth momentum, yet it also faces structural challenges. The growth potential based on traditional drivers is increasingly narrowing, while the need to enhance productivity, quality, and growth efficiency becomes more pressing. This requires the economy to more effectively exploit new, more sustainable growth drivers.

The digital economy is becoming a dominant trend in the global economy, closely linked with the rapid development of digital technology, artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things. In Vietnam, developing the digital economy has been identified as a crucial pillar in the national development strategy up to 2030, with a vision towards 2045, serving as a new driver to enhance productivity, quality, efficiency, and competitiveness of the economy.

However, current assessments of the digital economy in Vietnam mainly focus on measuring its scale and proportion in GDP, while in-depth quantitative studies on its comprehensive contributions, spillover effects, and impact on the overall productivity of the economy remain limited. A comprehensive and systematic evaluation of the digital economy’s role is an urgent requirement to provide a scientific basis for policy formulation and management in the coming period.

In this context, the national scientific conference “Vietnam’s Economy in 2025 and Prospects for 2026,” along with the Announcement of the Annual Vietnam Economic Review 2025, will focus on analyzing and evaluating the role of the digital economy as a driver for growth, value enhancement, and productivity improvement of Vietnam’s economy.

II. OBJECTIVES AND CONTENT OF THE CONFERENCE

The conference comprehensively summarizes Vietnam’s economy in 2025 (achievements and existing issues, evaluates causes, analyzes opportunities and challenges). It also assesses the role and contribution of the digital economy to growth, output, and added value of the economy; and evaluates the impact of the digital economy on productivity. From there, the conference proposes policy recommendations for economic management in 2026 and subsequent years, as well as policy recommendations to promote digital economic development and maximize the spillover effects of the digital economy on the economy in the new era.

    With the above objective, the conference will focus on the following topics:

– Clarifying the international context and the global impacts on Vietnam’s economy in 2025;

– Evaluating the economic developments of Vietnam in 2025 through the main sectors of the economy (real economy sector, external sector, monetary financial sector, fiscal financial sector); achievements and limitations, assessing the causes of these limitations;

– Analyzing the impact channels and spillover effects of the digital economy, including multiplier effects, the digitization process, and spillover impacts; thereby assessing the impact of the digital economy on the economy;

– Evaluating the impact of the digital economy on the productivity of enterprises and the economy.

– Analyzing the economic prospects of Vietnam in 2026 and subsequent years in the context of digital transformation;

– Proposing policy recommendations to promote the development of the digital economy and effectively harness the spillover effects of the digital economy for growth and productivity.
