Representing the supporting sponsors were Tran Dang Nam, Director of SHB Trang An; Le Anh Tan, Deputy Director of the Dong Do Branch; Diep Xuan Tuan Anh, Director of Market Development at ICDL Vietnam; and Duong Quang Minh, Director of Minh Phat Trading and Services Co., Ltd. Taking a pioneering role, NEU has been developing university football professionally and systematically, contributing to the development of Vietnam’s student football ecosystem. The University considers sports in general, and football in particular, an important part of education. It is gradually building and developing university football for students in a professional and systematic manner, following the models of universities in Japan and South Korea.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU, said: “Over the past four years, NEU League has largely achieved its stated objectives: providing a professional training environment for students and enhancing the tournament’s image and reputation. Although challenges remain regarding facilities and match schedules, we will strive to address them. I hope that the league competition model will spread to other universities, enabling broader and more extensive student participation in football.

We believe that in the future, NEU will identify talented players who can move on to professional football. However, this requires student football to grow further, with specific policies for exceptional talents. Development takes time; we cannot skip stages. Nevertheless, I believe that student football will make an important contribution to advancing Vietnamese football as a whole.”

The NEU League football tournament is organized for students in the University’s full-time undergraduate program, using a “League” format that runs alongside their studies at the University. The tournament has been held for four consecutive seasons and continues to improve. Through the tournament, the University hopes students can improve their physical fitness, enjoy themselves and pursue their passion, while having opportunities to put into practice the knowledge and skills they have learned at the University in managing and administering a football team, a group and an event. This contributes to developing bachelor’s degree graduates who are professionally competent, physically fit, passionate and enthusiastic.

NEU League pursues the core values of Professionalism in organization; Responsibility and partnership with students and sponsors; providing a healthy playing environment for students to pursue their Passion; and promoting honesty in competition through FairPlay.

With long-term development as its goal, in 2024 NEU signed a cooperation agreement with Tran Phu Electromechanical Joint Stock Company, which will serve as the tournament’s patron and partner for six years, from 2024 to 2029. Also beginning in 2024, the tournament’s name officially changed to “TRAN PHU NEU League”.

Dang Quoc Chinh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tran Phu Electromechanical Joint Stock Company, is currently a member of the NEU University Council, an alumnus and a former lecturer of the University. His support for the tournament reflects a successful alumnus’s affection for the University and his desire to spread positive values to generations of students. With the six-year partnership of Tran Phu Electromechanical Joint Stock Company, the Organizing Committee expects to successfully organize this season and subsequent seasons, providing a beneficial playing environment and delivering considerable value to the University’s students.

TRAN PHU NEU League S5 in 2024 features 16 teams, comprising the 12 strongest teams from the University’s faculties and institutes, alongside four guest teams: Tran Phu Electromechanical Joint Stock Company; SHB Joint Stock Commercial Bank; FPT Play Television (the tournament’s media patron); and the University’s Faculty and Staff Football Club. This season notably features many well-known figures, including Bui Hoang Viet Anh, a center back currently playing for Hanoi Police Football Club who has represented Vietnam’s national team for three years. Viet Anh will play for a guest team, helping raise the tournament’s technical standard and giving students an opportunity to test their skills against other players.

The TRAN PHU NEU League S5 tournament is expected to last approximately six months, with a total of 15 rounds and 120 matches played in a seven-a-side format on NEU’s artificial-turf football field. Matches will be broadcast live on the FPT Play Television network.
