On August 5, the National Economics University, in collaboration with the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED), organized a seminar titled “Introduction of Funding, Support, and Research Commissioning Programs in the Field of Social Sciences and Humanities.” The program attracted the participation of NAFOSTED leaders, university leaders, and a large number of scientists, lecturers, and research staff to discuss new mechanisms and policies in scientific research funding activities, while also enhancing the connection between the Foundation and the research community in the field of social sciences and humanities.<\/em><\/p>\n\n

In his opening remarks at the seminar, Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh – Vice President of the University expressed sincere gratitude to the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development for consistently supporting higher education institutions, research institutes, and the scientific community in Vietnam, and for coordinating with the National Economics University to organize this meaningful program.<\/p>\n\n

According to Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh, Resolution No. 57-NQ\/TW of the Politburo has affirmed the central role of research universities in generating new knowledge, training high-quality human resources, and providing scientific arguments for national development policy formulation. For the National Economics University, this is also the development orientation that the University steadfastly pursues, where academic research not only contributes to enhancing academic prestige but also creates practical value for the economy, businesses, and policy-making processes.<\/p>\n\n

Emphasizing the role of social sciences and humanities in the new development context, the Vice President of the University stated that issues such as institutional reform, improving growth quality, digital transformation, green transition, innovation in governance models, human resource development, and enhancing national competitiveness all require in-depth research with scientific basis and practical value. To achieve this, in addition to the capabilities of scientists and research institutions, it is necessary to build a modern, transparent research support system that aligns with international standards.<\/p>\n\n

Appreciating the role of NAFOSTED in the national science and technology ecosystem, Assoc. Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh believes that the Fund not only serves as a research sponsor but also contributes to the formation of a modern research culture, promotes healthy academic competition, enhances research quality, and strengthens international integration. The Fund’s innovations in expanding applied research programs and implementing research commissioning mechanisms demonstrate its orientation towards bringing science closer to the country’s development requirements and societal needs.<\/p>\n\n

Assoc. Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh also shared that over the years, NAFOSTED has always been one of the important partners of the National Economics University in developing academic research. Currently, the University is implementing 12 tasks funded by the Fund; specifically, in 2025, 8 tasks have been approved, and in the first phase of 2026, there are 16 registered applications. These results not only reflect the research capacity of the faculty members but also demonstrate the Fund’s trust in the scientists of the National Economics University.<\/p>\n\n

Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh affirmed that the National Economics University will continue to invest strongly in academic research activities, build an open and professional academic environment, develop strong research groups, and simultaneously promote interdisciplinary research, research serving policy-making, and research linked to the development needs of businesses and the economy.<\/p>\n\n

Dr. Nguyen Phu Binh believes that social sciences and humanities play a special role in studying humans, perfecting institutions, and providing scientific bases for policy-making processes. In the context of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, climate change, and socio-economic fluctuations, in-depth research with forecasting capabilities and policy advisory value will become increasingly important, contributing to solving the nation’s development challenges.<\/p>\n\n

A representative from NAFOSTED stated that, alongside continuing to support research ideas originating from scientists’ needs, the Fund is gradually expanding funding programs in the form of commissioning to address major national issues. The goal is to ensure that research outcomes not only hold academic value but are also transformed into mechanisms, policies, and solutions serving socio-economic development.<\/p>\n\n
