According to the Global Project Management Talent Gap Report 2025 by the Project Management Institute (PMI), there will be approximately 39.6 million project management professionals worldwide by 2025, while demand may increase by 48% to 64% by 2035. Under PMI’s high-growth scenario, the global talent gap in this field could reach 29.8 million by 2035.

For Vietnam, PMI estimates there will be approximately 430,000 project management professionals by 2025; under the low-growth scenario of the report, demand may reach about 746,000 by 2035, equivalent to an increase of about 74%. In Australia, data from the Australian Jobs and Skills Authority shows that roles related to contract, program, and project management are present in various sectors, from public administration, professional services, science and technology to construction.

These trends indicate that project management competencies have broad applications, not only in investment and construction but also in technology, digital transformation, infrastructure, sustainable development, innovation, and organizational change. Skills in planning, coordination, resource and risk management, stakeholder engagement, and implementation are therefore increasingly valuable in many professional environments.

The 2+2 transfer program allows students to access two complementary educational environments. At NEU, the Bachelor of Project Management program provides a foundation in economics, management, investment, and project management. At the University of Adelaide, students continue to develop business knowledge along with specialized skills in project leadership, risk management, communication, negotiation, teamwork, and innovation in an international academic setting.

Through this, students not only have the opportunity to study in Australia but also to develop internationally applicable professional competencies and broad application capabilities, while accumulating academic and intercultural experiences in both Vietnam and Australia.

From Cooperation Agreement to Learning Opportunities for Students

A significant milestone in the implementation of the transfer program was marked during the NEU delegation’s visit to the University of Adelaide in September 2026. Based on the University of Adelaide currently recognizing appropriate modules completed by students at NEU, both parties can continue to explore NEU’s recognition of corresponding modules completed at the University of Adelaide. This could serve as an academic foundation to consider the potential development of a dual-degree program in the future, depending on the compatibility of the curriculum, learning outcomes, academic requirements, and approval processes of the two universities.

The two parties have also discussed the potential development of an accelerated pathway from Bachelor’s to Master’s degrees, thereby gradually connecting undergraduate education with suitable postgraduate programs, creating a continuous and more efficient learning journey for eligible students.

Alongside program connectivity, the two universities aim to enhance bilateral academic exchanges. NEU is eager to welcome more lecturers and scientists from the University of Adelaide to participate in teaching, conferences, and research seminars, developing faculty capacity and engaging with doctoral candidates. For the Project Management field, these activities can help students access knowledge and perspectives from both universities while fostering connections between specialized groups, program development, and research collaboration.

From a specific credit transfer program, the collaboration between the National Economics University and the University of Adelaide can thus gradually expand in various aspects – from student mobility and credit recognition to articulation between educational levels, faculty exchange, and academic collaboration.

For NEU students, the 2+2 transfer program opens up the opportunity to begin their academic journey in Hanoi and continue in Adelaide under an academically aligned and agreed-upon plan by both universities. Furthermore, the program lays the foundation for the National Economics University and the University of Adelaide to gradually build a more extensive educational and academic collaboration ecosystem between Vietnam and Australia.

Article and photos: International Collaboration Department, School of Investment, and Communications Department

Project Management students at the National Economics University (NEU) now have additional international study opportunities in Australia through a newly established 2+2 transfer program with the University of Adelaide (Adelaide University – AU).
