On October 9, 2026, the National Economics University (NEU) in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) celebrated the 10th anniversary of the development of the Bachelor of Accounting\/Auditing Program in English integrated with the ICAEW CFAB International Certificate. Over the past decade, the program has achieved remarkable results in educational innovation, linking academic knowledge with international professional standards, contributing to enhancing the quality of accounting and auditing human resources and expanding career development opportunities for students in the context of globalization.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n

Program Overview<\/em><\/p>\n\n

Attending the program, representing the United Kingdom were Baroness Smith of Malvern – Minister of State for Skills Development, UK Department for Education; Mr. Iain Frew – British Ambassador to Vietnam. From the partner organizations were: Ms. Elaine Hong – ICAEW Regional Director for Southeast Asia; Ms. Dang Thi Mai Trang – Head of ICAEW Vietnam; along with representatives from professional associations VAA, VACPA, and auditing firms Deloitte, E&Y, KPMG, PWC, BDO\u2026<\/p>\n\n

Representing the National Economics University were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho – Secretary of the Party Committee, President of the University; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Anh – Vice President of the University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh The Hung \u2013 Deputy Director of the School of Accounting and Auditing; along with leaders from various Schools, Departments, Faculties, Institutes, and Centers within and affiliated with the University; generations of staff, faculty members, alumni, and students of the CFAB program.<\/p>\n\n

In 2017, the School of Accounting and Auditing (SAA) at the National Economics University officially launched and admitted the first cohort of the Bachelor of Accounting Program in English integrated with the ICAEW CFAB International Certificate, marking the beginning of a strategy to connect university education with international professional standards. Building on the success of this integrated model, in 2020, NEU and ICAEW expanded their educational collaboration to the Auditing field with the first cohort of the Bachelor of Auditing Program in English integrated with ICAEW CFAB.<\/p>\n\n

The distinguishing feature of the Program lies in its integration of undergraduate education with the internationally recognized ICAEW CFAB professional certificate. From the very first cohort, the Program has been oriented towards standardizing the curriculum according to international practices, while equipping students with professional knowledge, career skills, and opportunities to experience a professional working environment right from the classroom.<\/p>\n\n

After a decade of implementation, the Program has admitted nearly 1,000 students, including nearly 550 in Accounting and nearly 450 in Auditing. Nearly 500 students have completed the ICAEW CFAB Certificate, with the pass rate for exams consistently near 100%. According to ICAEW statistics, the rate of NEU students achieving Elite 90 is among the highest among ICAEW partner universities in Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n

Notably, in recent years, the rate of NEU students continuing the pathway from CFAB to the ICAEW ACA professional certificate has increased significantly, reaching nearly 70%, indicating a growing trend of students choosing to pursue long-term career development according to international standards.<\/p>\n\n

In his speech at the Anniversary Ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho – Party Secretary, President of the National Economics University emphasized that the 10-year journey of the program has demonstrated tangible results in innovating education, international integration, and linking higher education with the practical demands of the labor market. According to the University President, the notable achievements of the program are not merely in the number of students or international certification exam results, but also in the effective formation and development of a collaborative model between the University, international professional organizations, and the business community.<\/p>\n\n

Through this model, students gain early access to international accounting and auditing standards, while also having additional opportunities to hone professional skills, practical thinking, and professional competence during their studies. This is also the direction that the National Economics University persistently pursues, using the quality of education and the actual capabilities of learners as a measure, linking teaching activities with professional practice and the requirements of international integration.<\/p>\n\n

Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho highly appreciates the strategic partnership between the Institute of Accounting and Auditing and ICAEW in incorporating global professional standards into the curriculum, while also paving the way for long-term professional development for students, aiming for the ACA Chartered Accountant designation. According to the ICAEW representative, many significant milestones in the organization’s development journey in Vietnam are closely associated with the National Economics University and generations of students and alumni from the Institute of Accounting and Auditing. These include the full integration of six CFAB modules into the university program, the appearance of the first CFAB graduate in Vietnam in 2015, the first ICAEW ACA certificate holder in Vietnam in 2019, and pioneering students developing careers abroad since 2016.<\/p>\n\n

According to data released by the ICAEW representative, approximately 90% of Vietnamese students who have won the global ICAEW CFAB award come from the National Economics University; over 90% of students scoring 90 or above in CFAB exams are also from the University. The National Economics University also maintains the highest number of students completing CFAB and is one of the institutions with a prominent source of students continuing the ACA pathway.<\/p>\n\n

Reflecting on a decade of development, the UK Department for Education representative noted that from an initial cohort of just 35 students in 2016, the program has grown to 160 students in the 2026 admissions class. Over the past decade, nearly 1,000 students have participated in the program, with approximately 500 students graduating with both a bachelor’s degree from the National Economics University and the ICAEW CFAB certification. According to Baroness Smith of Malvern, these results demonstrate the practical value of the collaboration model between higher education institutions and international professional organizations, helping students combine specialized knowledge with practical skills, meeting employer demands and expanding career opportunities in a global environment.<\/p>\n\n

Particularly, the Baroness highly appreciated the career integration capabilities of the program’s graduates, as many alumni are working in Vietnam and countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, and Malaysia. A significant milestone in the 10-year collaboration journey is the tripartite agreements between the School of Accounting and Auditing, ICAEW, and leading auditing firms such as Deloitte, KPMG, EY, and BDO. The collaboration model between the university, enterprises, and international professional organizations has contributed to realizing the direction of integrating professional practice into education, thereby better preparing students of the Program to confidently enter the labor market after graduation.<\/p>\n\n

Thanks to the internationally standardized integrated training model, students of the Program consistently receive positive evaluations from employers. According to Program statistics, students have internship opportunities from the third and fourth years, and 100% secure employment immediately after graduation. Of these, approximately 70% work at Big Four firms; the remainder work at auditing firms, businesses, banks, and various other organizations. To date, the Program’s alumni network has grown stronger, with many alumni holding professional positions in Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n

To better train students to adapt to the rapid changes in Vietnam’s Accounting and Auditing sector, the Program is continuously updated and upgraded. From 2026, in addition to the six ICAEW CFAB subjects, students will be integrated with two Professional level subjects, allowing them to delve deeper into the ICAEW ACA career path during their university studies.<\/p>\n\n

In the next phase, NEU and ICAEW aim to continue upgrading the Program to meet the new requirements of the profession, especially in the fields of technology, data, artificial intelligence, sustainable development, and professional ethics. Additionally, both parties will enhance connections with businesses, expand internship opportunities, professional experiences, and international exchanges for students.<\/p>\n\n
