The 2025 Law on Organization of Local Government takes effect on March 1, 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n

On February 19, 2025, the National Assembly passed the 2025 Law on Organization of Local Government<\/a>, effective March 1, 2025.<\/p>\n

Article 1 of the 2025 Law on Organization of Local Government<\/a> stipulates that the administrative units of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam comprise:<\/p>\n

(1) Provinces and centrally governed cities (provincial level);<\/p>\n

(2) Rural districts, urban districts, towns, provincial cities, and cities within centrally governed cities (district level);<\/p>\n

(3) Communes, wards, and townships (commune level);<\/p>\n

(4) Special administrative-economic units established by decision of the National Assembly.<\/p>\n

Depending on geographical conditions, population, socioeconomic development requirements, and the need to ensure national defense and security, district-level administrative units on islands and archipelagos (collectively referred to as offshore islands) may have no commune-level administrative units.<\/p>\n

– Local government in the administrative units specified in (1), (2), and (3) above constitutes a level of local government comprising a People’s Council and a People’s Committee;<\/p>\n
