An overview of the seminar External participants attending the seminar included Dr. Kadhika Menon, external evaluator for global CCG from Oxford Policy Management, United Kingdom; Dr. Francesco Gardumi and Dr. Carolina Rodrigues, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden; Dr. Truong Thi Thu Trang, Deputy Director of the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Agriculture and Environment (ISPAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAE); Dr. Phung Duc Tung, Director of the Mekong Development Research Institute (MDRI); Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) specialist; and representatives of teams implementing CCG projects in Vietnam. Representing NEU were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President; Prof. Dr. Do Thi Hai Ha, Rector of the College of Economics and Public Management; Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Truong, Dean of the Faculty of Environment, Climate Change and Urban Studies; and representatives of the leadership of departments, faculties, institutes, centers and sociopolitical organizations across the University. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President, delivers the opening remarks at the seminar. On behalf of the University’s leadership, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President, welcomed domestic and international delegates to the training seminar on financial analysis models and spatial data management in climate-compatible growth research. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu praised the results achieved to date by the Vietnam CCG Network in collaboration with the global CCG Country Partnerships Team and the University Partner Consortium, comprising Loughborough University, the University of London, Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, the Open University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden. Alongside its research activities, CCG has organized numerous workshops, seminars and in-person and online consultation sessions, connecting domestic experts with the international academic community while providing important information to inform policymaking. Today’s seminar marks another milestone on that journey. Looking ahead, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu expressed his hope that the Vietnam CCG Network would continue to play a central role in connecting domestic and overseas partners, drawing on its deep understanding of Vietnam’s context to propose and undertake more research with strong practical relevance. He also expressed his expectation that this research would provide robust scientific evidence to support policymaking and promote the transition to a low-carbon economy. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu also thanked the Faculty of Environment, Climate Change and Urban Studies and the Vietnam CCG Coordination Board for their important contributions to promoting cooperation between NEU and partner universities in the United Kingdom. He expressed his hope that this cooperation would continue to expand, contributing to the development of both sides. Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Truong, Dean of the Faculty of Environment, Climate Change and Urban Studies, introduces the seminar’s topics. Speaking at the workshop, Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Truong, Dean and Senior Advisor to the Vietnam CCG Network, emphasized that achieving Net Zero by 2050 requires Vietnam to take strategic steps based on scientific models to develop effective and practical policies. CCG projects in Vietnam are currently contributing very positive results to evidence-based policymaking. Regular updates on project implementation results help the Vietnam CCG Coordination Board connect stakeholders more effectively. In parallel, global CCG analytical tools continue to be shared with the scientific community and policymakers, with this seminar focusing specifically on the integrated climate, land, energy and water model (CLEWs). Dr. Nguyen Hoang Nam, Country Coordinator of the Vietnam CCG Network, provides updates on the activities of the global CCG network. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Nam, Country Coordinator of the Vietnam CCG Network, reviewed CCG Vietnam’s activities, ongoing projects and upcoming work plans. Dr. Nam highlighted forthcoming cooperation with the GCIP program, the development of a new English-taught bachelor’s academic program in “Environmental Technology and Sustainable Development,” and capacity-building training programs (FinPLAN, GeoSpatial, CLEWs). Dr. La Tra Linh, Academy of Strategy and Training for Construction Officials, Ministry of Construction, provides updates on the implementation results of two FRF projects and one SPF project. Also at the seminar, Dr. La Tra Linh, Academy of Strategy and Training for Construction Officials (Ministry of Construction), shared updated results from the FRF project on financial models for urban electric buses and the SPF project on developing a circular economy action plan for the construction sector. The presentation focused on cost-benefit analyses, the potential to mobilize green financing for electric buses, and directions for promoting circular economy practices and material reuse in the construction sector. The project results have been providing important information to inform policymaking and Vietnam’s green transition. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Hai Ha provides updates on the results of the FRF project “Building Cooling Toward Net-Zero Emissions.” Next, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Hai Ha provided updates on the key results of the FRF project “Building Cooling Toward Net-Zero Emissions.” The presentation highlighted new findings on cooling demand in the context of climate change, technological solutions and energy optimization models for buildings. The initial results help shape policy recommendations to reduce pressure on the power system and improve sustainable cooling efficiency in the future. Dr. Le Thi Ly provides updates on the FRF project “Acacia Plantation Forestry—Wood Pellet Production and Distribution: A Solution for Coal Industry Workers in Vietnam.” Dr. Le Thi Ly, Mekong Development Research Institute, presented progress on the FRF project on acacia plantation forestry and wood pellet production and distribution as a livelihood transition solution for coal industry workers. The presentation outlined the model’s socioeconomic potential and its contributions to reducing emissions and creating sustainable local jobs. Initial analyses open up new approaches to developing green livelihoods in Vietnam. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan shares results of mainstreaming Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) in CCG projects and activities in Vietnam.
