Seven NEU Students Honored With Canadian Government SEED Scholarships for Exchange Students in 2025

In 2025, the Canadian Government awarded 213 SEED (Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development) scholarships to students from Southeast Asian countries. Vietnam was honored to have 45 students selected. Notably, National Economics University (NEU) secured seven scholarships through its outstanding performance, becoming the higher education institution with the most SEED scholarship recipients in Vietnam.

This clearly demonstrates the University’s ongoing efforts to advance the internationalization of education and expand opportunities for students to study and engage in academic exchanges in a dynamic, high-quality international environment.

Funded by the Canadian Government, SEED scholarships are designed to provide students, master’s students and PhD candidates from Southeast Asian countries with opportunities for short-term study and research at Canadian higher education institutions. The program aims to strengthen educational cooperation, foster people-to-people and cultural connections, and contribute to developing a high-quality workforce for the ASEAN region.

To be considered, SEED scholarship applicants must meet stringent requirements for academic achievement, foreign language proficiency, the ability to participate in research or academic exchanges, and a commitment to contributing actively to community activities and establishing international cooperation partnerships. These criteria reflect not only academic ability but also students’ sense of responsibility, initiative and aspirations to engage with the world.

On August 19, 2025, the Canadian Embassy held a formal gathering for SEED scholarship recipients to share experiences before the students began their exchanges.

During the fall 2025 exchange term, all seven NEU students will study at leading, reputable institutions in Canada, including Royal Roads University, Humber College and Mount Royal University. These exchanges will not only offer learning experiences in an advanced education system but also create opportunities for cultural exchange, stronger connections and greater mutual understanding between Vietnamese students and their international peers.

Nguyen Hong Son, a student in High-Quality Marketing Management Class 64D, Institute of Advanced, High-Quality and POHE Programs, received a 2025 SEED scholarship for a one-term exchange at Mount Royal University.

Reflecting on her journey of preparing for and earning a SEED scholarship, Nguyen Huong Giang, a student from the Faculty of Investment who will study at Royal Roads University, said: “Having set my sights on an exchange from my first days at NEU, I was a little disappointed to learn that I could not apply for a SEED scholarship in my first year because I did not yet have sufficient academic results. Undeterred, I submitted my scholarship application in my second year. The scholarship result arrived at the end of my second year, and although it was unexpected, it also reflected my effort and determination. I am grateful for my journey at National Economics University, where I have been able to study and participate in international cultural exchanges, enabling me to move forward confidently today. Throughout that journey, I have always had the support of my family, teachers, senior students and friends. I feel fortunate to have chosen National Economics University as the place to spend my youth, and proud to step out into the world through the doors of my beloved National Economics University.”

Over seven years of implementing exchange programs with Canadian partners under the Canadian Government’s SEED scholarships, NEU has sent 30 students on one-term exchanges. This year’s achievement once again affirms NEU’s pioneering position in international cooperation and demonstrates the University’s commitment to building a modern, open educational environment rich in opportunities for students. NEU is confident that the seven selected students will serve as capable academic ambassadors, promoting the image and intellectual values of Vietnamese students and contributing actively to building an increasingly connected and thriving global academic community.
