PRESS RELEASE ON
The “Made in Vietnam Energy” seminar
to advance policy and investment in Vietnam’s clean energy sector
– The “Made in Vietnam Energy” seminar, to be held on June 18 in Hanoi, will launch the latest edition of the “Made in Vietnam Energy Plan” and aims to promote dialogue among stakeholders, helping shape the future of Vietnam’s clean energy sector.
– Stakeholders participating in the seminar from the Government, private sector, academia, and international partners will discuss opportunities and solutions to increase investment in clean energy and advance policy reform.
– The seminar also aims to remove investment barriers, mobilize the necessary financing, and contribute to Vietnam’s path toward green, sustainable, and inclusive growth.
NEU and the Power and Energy Working Group (PEWG) of the Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) are co-organizing the “Made in Vietnam Energy” seminar on June 18, 2025, in Hanoi. This high-level forum will bring together key stakeholders from the Government, private sector, academia, and development organizations to develop a roadmap for Vietnam’s clean energy transition and promote sustainable investment.
The seminar is organized under the Enhancing Investment Readiness in Vietnam’s Clean Energy Sector project, funded by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and jointly implemented by NEU, The Asia Foundation (TAF), and Pacific Rim Investment & Management (PRIM). The seminar marks an important step toward aligning Vietnam’s energy development goals with its economic development strategies and national commitments to addressing climate change.
A central feature of the seminar is the release of the “Made in Vietnam Energy Plan 4.0” (MVEP 4.0) report. The report presents a long-term vision, a medium-term policy framework, and practical short-term solutions to advance Vietnam’s clean energy transition. It emphasizes enhancing national competitiveness, removing administrative and legal barriers to attracting investment, and building a stable, low-emission power sector with affordable prices.
“The upcoming seminar and the release of the MVEP 4.0 report mark an important milestone in Vietnam’s energy transition,” said Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Truong, Dean of the Faculty of Environment, Climate Change and Urban Studies, NEU. “We aim to develop a roadmap that not only ensures a sustainable energy future for Vietnam but also strengthens the country’s competitiveness in the global clean energy sector.”
Sunita Dubey, GEAPP’s Country Representative in Vietnam, emphasized the importance of working together toward a shared goal: “Vietnam has clearly demonstrated its strong ambition to pursue an energy transition toward green, clean development that leaves no one behind. This seminar demonstrates the power of collaboration in advancing the investment and policy reforms needed to build a sustainable, people-centered future. We are proud to work alongside our partners in a collective effort to advance Vietnam’s clean energy transition.”
The seminar will include presentations and discussions on solutions to mitigate risks in clean energy investment, develop transparent investor selection mechanisms, and promote comprehensive policy dialogue. More than 300 delegates are expected to attend, including representatives from the National Assembly’s Economic Committee, the Central Commission for Policy and Strategy, relevant ministries, sectors, departments, and agencies, research institutes, universities, and development organizations, as well as business leaders.
John Rockhold, Head of the Power and Energy Working Group of the Vietnam Business Forum, said: “Through this event, we aim to encourage stakeholders to collaborate and take action, building a shared understanding of the investment capital and policies needed to support a clean, resilient, and competitive energy economy in Vietnam.”
Vietnam’s renewable energy sector has grown strongly, with ambitious targets for wind power, solar power, and rooftop solar power in the coming decades. The revised Power Development Plan VIII sets targets for renewable energy, excluding hydropower, to account for up to 36% of total installed capacity by 2030 and up to 75% by 2050, with offshore wind power alone expected to reach 139 GW by mid-century. However, achieving these targets will require strong supportive policies, a transparent legal framework, and the mobilization of substantial private-sector and international investment.
With electricity demand in Vietnam projected to grow by an average of 6.5% annually between now and 2050, NEU, the Power and Energy Working Group of the Vietnam Business Forum, The Asia Foundation, Pacific Rim Investment & Management, and the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet are jointly organizing this seminar as part of their collective efforts to support Vietnam’s green transition. The event aims to strengthen the foundations for clean energy investment, advance urgent policy reforms, and contribute to realizing Vietnam’s aspiration to become a high-income country by 2045.
