The competition, organized by the Vietnam Mathematical Society, took place from April 6 to 10, attracting 90 teams with over 660 students from universities and academies nationwide. This continues to be a prestigious academic platform that contributes to discovering and nurturing mathematical talents, while also providing an environment for students to develop critical thinking, enhance analytical skills, and connect with the young research community.

This year, NEU had 7 students competing in Category A, which gathers outstanding candidates from educational institutions across the country. Notably, NEU was the only representative from the economics sector in this category, which is typically the “playground” for institutions specializing in fundamental sciences.

4 NEU students won Third Prize in Algebra

In the Algebra category, 4 NEU students won Third Prize, including: Tong Manh Cuong (Actuary 66B), Pham Phuong Thao (Actuary 67A), Nguyen Thanh Tu (Economic Mathematics 67), and Vu Bui Dinh Tung (DSEB 65B), all from the Faculty of Economic Mathematics.

This year’s competition awarded a total of 48 Third Prizes in Algebra nationwide. The results of NEU students not only contributed to the overall achievement but also highlighted the growing presence of economics students in specialized academic competitions.

Participating and winning in Group A is a testament to the diligent and persistent study efforts of the students, while also reflecting the emphasis on Mathematics in the curriculum. More importantly, this result demonstrates that the boundaries between different academic disciplines are gradually being blurred, as economics students can fully compete and assert their capabilities in fields that require high scientific thinking.
