Logistics plays an important role in the structure of the economy, supporting, connecting and promoting socioeconomic development and contributing to the economy’s competitiveness. Vietnam is considered a market with strong potential and appeal for the development of logistics services. The widespread use of the Internet and digital technology has revolutionized service delivery by logistics enterprises. Amid international economic integration and Industry 4.0, accelerating the development of logistics services will help Vietnam develop its economy and integrate more deeply and broadly into the international economy.

With its favorable geographical location, Vinh Phuc is home to many large industrial enterprises and is one of the country’s leading localities in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) projects. The province has therefore paid particular attention to planning and developing logistics services. As science and technology advance rapidly, the logistics sector in Vinh Phuc will face numerous difficulties and challenges alongside major opportunities.

The national scientific conference on “Logistics Development in the Context of Integration and Industry 4.0” was held in Vinh Phuc as part of the research project “Assessing the Service Delivery Capacity of Logistics Enterprises in Vinh Phuc Province,” conducted under an agreement signed between the Vinh Phuc Provincial Department of Science and Technology and NEU.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Vu Tuan Anh, Director of the Center for Economic and Business Research and Consulting at NEU, emphasized the important role of logistics enterprises in the economy, particularly in the context of Industry 4.0, in which breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, combined with the Internet of Things (IoT) and modernization tools, have changed logistics service delivery.

According to Dr. Vu Tuan Anh, logistics costs currently account for approximately 10% of GDP in developed countries, while the figure in developing countries can exceed 20% of GDP. Factors affecting these costs include planning, policy mechanisms, infrastructure, technology, human resources and market maturity. In the current context, the Government of Vietnam has paid attention to and encouraged the development of logistics activities. However, the development of logistics services faces numerous challenges.
