National Economics University Youth Take the Lead in Recovery Efforts After Heavy Rains and Flooding

Last week, immediately after Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi) swept inland, causing extensive damage, nearly 500 students from National Economics University (NEU) set out to help residents in Hanoi and other localities clean up and recover from heavy rains and flooding.

In the spirit of “Wherever there is a need, young people are there; wherever there is hardship, young people step forward,” the University’s student volunteers helped residents in Hai Ba Trung, Hoan Kiem and Hoang Mai Districts clear numerous streets of fallen and broken trees after Typhoon No. 3 in Hanoi. The Executive Committee of the NEU Youth Union also dispatched a team of volunteers to coordinate support, take part in flood recovery efforts and clear mud in Phu Tho, and deliver gifts to families in difficult circumstances in Son Duong Commune, Tuyen Quang Province.

Vu Tri Tuan, Secretary of the NEU Youth Union, said that, with youthful enthusiasm, NEU students had willingly faced difficulties and volunteered to travel to flooded areas to help residents, particularly in localities severely affected by Typhoon No. 3. They helped residents move their belongings and clean their homes, and provided support and gifts to families in difficult circumstances affected by the typhoon.

Dang Quoc Huy, a student and member of the volunteer team, said this was his first time helping residents in a disaster-stricken area. After the trip, he felt more mature and more responsible toward the community, having witnessed the hardships and widespread deprivation residents faced in the aftermath of the typhoon. Although the journey was long and dangerous, with many places still flooded and at high risk of landslides, the team was not afraid. “We just wanted to get there quickly and start working,” Huy shared.

The efforts of NEU students, alongside volunteers across the country, have helped localities quickly stabilize conditions and restore their landscapes and environment after the typhoon. These activities demonstrate young people’s pioneering role and spirit of volunteer service for the community.

NEU hopes its students will draw fully on their youthful enthusiasm, compassion and sense of responsibility to help residents restore stability to their lives as soon as possible.
