This morning, despite heavy rain in Hanoi, many parents and their children attended the 2024 University and College Admission Review Counseling Day at Hanoi University of Science and Technology to receive admission review counseling and learn more about universities.

The 2024 University and College Admission Review Counseling Day was organized at Hanoi University of Science and Technology by Tuoi Tre newspaper in coordination with the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) and the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs. This year’s event featured more than 100 universities and colleges with 280 counseling booths, promising distinctive experiences and activities for students to explore fields of study and careers, and attracting large numbers of high school students from Hanoi and other provinces.

Dr. Le Anh Duc, Deputy Head in charge of the Department of Academic Affairs at NEU and a member of the counseling panel, answers questions from applicants and parents at the event.

NEU’s admissions counseling area attracts considerable interest from parents and students.

At the admissions counseling area of NEU, faculty members shared information with students and parents about academic programs, admissions methods, tuition fees, and employment opportunities for graduates of the University’s various faculties and majors. They also advised students on choosing a major and discussed the University’s learning and teaching environment, as well as future scholarship opportunities. In addition to providing counseling, NEU prepared special small gifts for applicants and a variety of other engaging mini-game activities.

With its diverse fields of study and careers, along with in-depth counseling activities, the 2024 University and College Admission Review Counseling Day provided applicants with a wealth of useful information. Le Minh Vuong, a student at Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted (Hanoi), said he was exploring NEU’s academic programs and specializations. However, his score of 27.03 in the D01 subject combination differed from the previous year’s admission cut-off scores by only 0.1–0.4 points. “My biggest concern in coming to the admission review counseling day is whether admission cut-off scores will rise significantly compared with last year, so I want the University’s admissions counseling panel to help me find a suitable major,” Vuong said.

Pham Thi Cam Ly, a student at Tran Quang Khai High School (Hung Yen), said she had scored 26.35 in the D01 subject combination and wanted to study e-commerce. “However, when I checked the University’s admission cut-off score for this major last year, my score was not high enough,” Ly said regretfully.

Dang Quang Minh (Nam Dinh) shared, “I am very worried and do not know how admission cut-off scores will rise or fall, or which majors I can apply for with 27.75 points in the D01 subject combination, given that score distributions for all subject combinations are higher than last year. I came to the program to ask faculty members for more advice on career opportunities and lower-ranked choices on my application if I am not admitted to my favorite major.”

Ms. Doan Thi Thanh Tam (Phu Tho) said her child had scored 26.03 in the A00 subject combination. After looking up admissions information online, both mother and child remained very uncertain about which institution would be a suitable choice given the child’s score and aspirations. Upon learning about the admission review counseling day, they both woke up at 3 a.m. to travel to Hanoi to attend the program.

The 2024 University and College Admission Review Counseling Day was a useful event, helping applicants gain more information and guidance for their future. In addition to attending such events, applicants should research institutions and majors through the institutions’ official admissions plans published on official information channels, such as the Ministry of Education and Training website and the websites of universities and colleges.
