In his opening remarks at the TRAN PHU NEU League S5 football tournament, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President of NEU, noted that school and university football in Vietnam has received growing attention and investment in recent years. Many large-scale football tournaments for school and university students have also been organized in Vietnam. However, NEU League is one of the few tournaments able to adopt a season-long format, with regular rounds of matches and standings similar to those of the V-League. Through the tournament, NEU hopes to help students improve their physical fitness, enjoy themselves and pursue their passion, while giving them opportunities to apply the knowledge and skills learned at the University in managing and administering football teams, groups and events. This contributes to educating graduates at the bachelor’s level who have strong professional expertise, physical fitness, passion and enthusiasm.

Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Hieu expressed his hope that players competing this season would participate wholeheartedly in a spirit of solidarity, friendly interaction, sportsmanship and honesty, and receive even more enthusiastic encouragement from the many supporters.

The 2024 TRAN PHU NEU League S5 features 16 teams: the 12 strongest teams from faculties and institutes across the University, along with four guest teams representing Tran Phu Electromechanical Joint Stock Company; SHB Commercial Joint Stock Bank; FPT Play Television (the tournament’s media sponsor); and the University’s Faculty and Staff Football Club. This season notably features many well-known names, including Bui Hoang Viet Anh, a center-back currently playing for Hanoi Police Football Club who has represented Vietnam’s national team for three years. Viet Anh will play for a guest team, helping raise the tournament’s playing standards and giving students an opportunity to test their skills.

The TRAN PHU NEU League S5 tournament is expected to run for approximately six months, with a total of 15 rounds and 120 seven-a-side matches played on NEU’s artificial turf football field. The matches will be broadcast live on the FPT Play Television platform.
