The event marked an important milestone, recognizing three decades of organizational development, dedication, and growth of the Veterans’ Association alongside the development of NEU.
It was also an opportunity to review the year’s outstanding results, express gratitude to generations of veterans, and set directions for the next phase of activities, continuing to uphold the tradition of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” in a modern academic environment.

Established on April 25, 1995, the NEU Veterans’ Association was the first veterans’ association among universities and colleges nationwide. From its initial 54 members, the Association has grown into a strong organization with 111 active members organized into two chapters. A total of 161 members have belonged to the Association over its 30-year history.
Over the past three decades, many Association members have held important positions at the University as respected lecturers, scientists, and administrators. Although they have left military service, these veterans continue to uphold the qualities of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” in education, helping build NEU into a leading center for education and research.
The Veterans’ Association has consistently affirmed its pioneering role in studying and thoroughly understanding the Party’s guidelines and policies, countering erroneous views, and safeguarding the ideological foundation in the university environment. Many members are exemplary Party members who make important contributions to Party building and strengthening internal unity.
Alongside their political duties, NEU veterans have also made many outstanding professional contributions. Many members have led or participated in hundreds of scientific research projects, compiled textbooks, and provided advice on the University’s development strategy, helping advance innovation, modernization, and international integration. Many have received orders and certificates of merit from the State, the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Veterans’ Association; many have been awarded the titles of People’s Teacher and Meritorious Teacher.
Alongside its professional activities, the Association maintains numerous programs of support and gratitude: visiting members who are ill; caring for the Memorial Room and the Monument to the Day of Enlistment; commemorating fallen soldiers who were alumni, faculty, and staff; and organizing exchanges and activities to educate students about traditions. These activities help build a cohesive community, foster camaraderie, and spread humanistic values throughout the University.
For its outstanding achievements, the Association has been recognized as a “Collective with Excellent Performance of Duties” for many consecutive years and has twice received the “Exemplary Veterans” Emulation Flag, along with numerous certificates of merit and commendation from the Association’s Central Committee, the Hanoi Veterans’ Association, and the University.
Entering a new phase as NEU pursues extensive innovation and international integration, the Veterans’ Association has identified several key tasks: continuing to uphold political steadfastness and the qualities of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers”; maintaining its exemplary role in ethics and professional work; promoting scientific research and advice on the University’s development strategy; expanding activities to support members’ well-being; and strengthening education about traditions for students—those who will shape the country’s future.

Throughout this journey, the Association has consistently maintained political steadfastness and the spirit of “Uncle Ho’s Soldiers” while making tangible contributions to the University’s overall development.
“The past three decades have been a journey of pride for the NEU Veterans’ Association. You not only performed your duties with distinction in building and defending the Fatherland, but also, upon returning to this University, continued to set shining examples in teaching, research, management, and service,” emphasized Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho.
The University leadership recognized and highly valued members’ sense of responsibility, exemplary conduct, and determination to overcome difficulties. These values have helped build a cultured, disciplined, and creative environment, providing an important foundation for NEU’s strong development over many years.
