National Economics University Holds Seminar on “Scientific Research Methods and Processes Applied to Management Information Systems”
On April 23, 2025, a scientific seminar on “Scientific Research Methods and Processes Applied to Management Information Systems” took place at National Economics University (NEU).
An overview of the seminar
External guests attending the seminar included Dr. Nguyen Minh Ngoc, Deputy Director General of the Department of Information Technology and Digital Transformation, Ministry of Finance; Dr. La Hoang Trung, Director General of the Department of Posts, Ministry of Science and Technology; Dr. Nguyen Nhu Son, Head of the Department of Integrated Geographic Information Systems, Institute of Information Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Vy, former Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology, University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
Representing NEU were Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat, Chairman of the Science and Training Council; Dr. Nguyen Thi Bach Tuyet, Dean of the Faculty of Management Information Systems; leadership representatives from colleges, departments, faculties, institutes, and centers; lecturers from the Faculty of Management Information Systems; and doctoral students, master’s students, and students enrolled in the faculty’s specialized programs.
Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat, Chairman of the Science and Training Council, delivers the opening remarks
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat, Chairman of the Science and Training Council, noted that management information systems is an interdisciplinary field combining information technology, management, and organizational behavior, with distinctive characteristics such as a systems orientation, integration, and the ability to adapt rapidly to advances in digital technology. In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, research in management information systems requires not only creativity but also rigorous scientific research methods and processes suited to the field’s specific characteristics. However, in Vietnam, particularly at NEU—a pioneering institution and the only one in the country offering management information systems programs at all three levels: bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral—studies on scientific research methods and processes in this field remain isolated and have yet to be systematized and generalized into a standard methodology.
“In a spirit of academic openness and creativity, we hope that today’s seminar will offer new perspectives and breakthrough ideas, helping to affirm NEU’s position as a leading institution in education and research in management information systems in Vietnam,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat.
Dr. Doan Quang Minh presents the paper “Scientific research methods and processes applied to management information systems”
Dr. Chu Thi Hong Hai from the Banking Academy shares insights on “The current state of research in management information systems worldwide”
Dr. Pham Minh Hoan analyzes “The current application of scientific research methods and processes in management information systems at the College of Technology, National Economics University”
At the seminar, participants discussed, shared perspectives, and contributed opinions on scientific research methods and processes in management information systems, including: systematizing and generalizing research methods and processes in management information systems while drawing lessons from universities in Vietnam and abroad; assessing the current application of research methods and processes at the College of Technology and identifying gaps compared with other institutions offering management information systems programs worldwide; and proposing suitable research methods and processes that can be applied to case studies at NEU.
