Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, President of NEU, delivers his remarks

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, President of NEU, emphasized that, over nearly 70 years of development, NEU has become one of the country’s leading centers for education, research, and policy advice in economics, management, and business administration.

The University has always taken pride in educating outstanding experts, scientists, managers, and entrepreneurs who serve the country. Over the years, the University has continuously renewed its academic programs, strengthened scientific research, promoted digital transformation, and expanded international cooperation to provide students with a modern, dynamic, and globally connected learning environment.

“Starting today, you embark on a new journey—a journey to master knowledge at this renowned university, where generations of students have studied, grown, and helped bring honor to the country. You become members of a community of ‘Intellect, Creativity, and Aspiration to Contribute.’ Take pride in this, but also recognize your responsibility to carry forward this glorious tradition through your own resolve and efforts,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong told the new students.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, students of the 67th cohort are entering university amid profound and comprehensive changes worldwide, particularly in digital technology, artificial intelligence, and globalization. Vietnam faces new opportunities for development through strategic policy decisions. In particular, Resolution 71 on breakthroughs in education and training development, recently issued by the Politburo, reaffirms that “Education and training are the foremost national policy priority and a key driver of national development; they are the key to the country becoming strong and prosperous.” These changes open up major opportunities while also presenting numerous challenges, requiring each student to adapt proactively and acquire knowledge, skills, and resilience not only to study well but also to help shape the country’s future.

The President of NEU also recalled General Secretary To Lam’s message to school and university students at the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the education sector and the opening of the 2025-2026 academic year: Students must nurture great ambitions and aspirations, study and develop themselves to become global citizens, and gradually align with international standards while always preserving their Vietnamese identity and spirit.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong advised the new students that, to succeed during their years at NEU, they must learn proactively and creatively. They must acquire both foundational and contemporary knowledge and develop independent thinking, analytical and creative abilities, and the capacity to solve practical problems in society. They also need to develop skills to adapt to a globalized environment. Alongside solid professional knowledge, they should cultivate foreign language proficiency, digital skills, communication skills, and other soft skills to become global citizens.

The President of NEU reminded students always to uphold a sense of responsibility and the courage to think boldly and act decisively. He encouraged them to explore, participate in scientific research projects, and venture into startup projects to turn their ideas into reality. From small ideas, they can create significant value for the community and society.

New students also need to cultivate their character and live responsibly toward the community. “Your knowledge and skills are truly meaningful only when they create value for society. Live with compassion and integrity, share with others, and uphold a spirit of service for community development, in keeping with NEU’s educational philosophy.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong also advised students to balance their studies and personal lives. Beyond classroom learning, they should actively participate in extracurricular activities and pursue personal development and new experiences so that their university years become the most beautiful and memorable period of their youth.

“The University is committed to supporting you through the dedication of its lecturers, support from its units, and the care of the NEU alumni community—one of the largest alumni communities in the country,” the President of NEU affirmed.

Speaking on behalf of the new students of the 67th cohort, Tran Ngoc Tu Anh, an E-commerce student, shared that this opening ceremony was perhaps the most special one for her and her peers, as they had become new students at NEU—one of the country’s most prestigious universities.

Tu Anh confided that her love for NEU came not only from its reputation as a leading educational institution in economics, management, and business administration. That love grew from stories she had heard about a university with nearly 70 years of history that has educated generations of outstanding entrepreneurs and leaders.

That love grew as she learned about the lecturers—leading experts who are dedicated and approachable. It intensified as she followed students in earlier cohorts, who not only had impressive academic achievements but were also dynamic, creative, and wholeheartedly engaged in club activities and events large and small.

“It was the distinctive character of NEU students—their confidence, sharp minds, and constant willingness to take on challenges—that truly won me over. I chose NEU not only to gain knowledge but also to write the most brilliant chapter of my youth at the very university I had chosen,” Tu Anh said.

She also affirmed her commitment to continually learning to master knowledge, developing herself, and taking action to contribute. “Our four years at NEU will be four years of effort and striving to excel, so that we can confidently declare: K67 is a generation full of enthusiasm and confidence, ready to create value,” Tu Anh shared.
