Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President, delivers remarks
In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President, noted that in the context of globalization, the effects of economic instability have crossed national borders, affecting the lives of millions of people. From shifts in global trade value chains to inflationary pressures, and from currency fluctuations to technological breakthroughs, the challenges we face are both complex and urgent. As an emerging economy, Vietnam faces all these global challenges, with its financial system playing a pivotal role in overcoming the effects of economic instability.
Prof. Nguyen Thanh Hieu affirmed that the conference was a highly meaningful forum for academic exchange, sharing practical experience, and proposing solutions and recommendations to state regulatory agencies.
“Throughout our discussions, we will explore the multidimensional effects of economic instability and analyze its impacts on Vietnam’s financial and banking system. We hope to build a forum featuring diverse perspectives and innovative approaches, thereby providing further scientific evidence, solutions, and recommendations to chart a path toward recovery and sustainable growth for Vietnam,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu.
Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat, Chairman of the Science and Training Council, NEU, presents a paper at the conference
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Tam, School of Banking and Finance, NEU, presents a paper at the conference
The year 2025 marks the final year of Vietnam’s 2021-2025 planning period. Under the plan, average GDP growth for this period must reach 6.5%-7%, but Vietnam’s actual GDP growth averaged only 5.24% over the three years from 2021 to 2023 and was projected to reach 6.8%-7% in 2024. While the global economy has experienced and continues to experience major fluctuations, with countries suffering severe consequences that they have yet to overcome, the war between Russia and Ukraine and conflicts in countries in the Middle East have had numerous repercussions for investment capital flows, trade and supply chains, and the management of fiscal and monetary policies in response to slow economic growth and the risk of high inflation.
Vietnam is deepening and broadening its integration into the global economy, having signed 17 bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements. There is therefore an urgent need to study unpredictable global fluctuations to inform policy responses for Vietnam’s financial system in the immediate term and the period ahead.
Prof. Dr. Tran Tho Dat, Chairman of the Science and Training Council, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Xuan Que, Dean of the School of Banking and Finance, moderate the discussion session at the conference
The conference provides a forum for scholars, managers, lecturers, PhD candidates, and practitioners from around the world to discuss contemporary issues in finance and banking; engage in academic exchange; share practical experience; and propose solutions, recommendations, and practical policies aimed at building a stable financial and banking system in Vietnam and promoting its development.
