Meritorious Teacher Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU, addresses the gathering

Speaking at the gathering, Meritorious Teacher Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong affirmed: “Throughout the centuries, teaching has always been regarded as one of the noblest professions. Respect for teachers and their teachings has always lived in the hearts of generations of students, passed down and nurtured throughout history and the passage of time. Teachers are likened to boat operators who diligently ferry successive generations of students across a river. We are truly happy to witness generations of students grow and mature. Our beloved students are the very source of motivation that inspires all of us to devote ourselves passionately to this glorious work.”

Prof. Pham Hong Chuong added: “In today’s society, teachers must not only possess strong knowledge and develop their professional expertise but, more importantly, uphold their personal qualities and ethical standards. This is especially true of university lecturers, who make some of the most important contributions to shaping the character and outlook on life of future generations. When students enter university, they begin an independent life and enter the stage in which their entire character takes shape. University lecturers therefore play an extremely important role in building the country’s future.”

“Over the years, NEU has continually developed and continued to build on its tradition of nearly 70 years of establishment and growth. Previously, the NEU University Council adopted a Resolution establishing three colleges: the College of Economics and Public Management, the College of Business, and the College of Technology. This was the first step in the University’s restructuring and completion of its conversion dossier, culminating in the Prime Minister’s official issuance of Decision No. 1386/QĐ-TTg on NEU’s transition to its new university model. This represents an immensely significant transformation for the University. In addition, the events and achievements of 2024 are also a great source of pride, with the University’s Journal of Economics and Development being indexed in Scopus and ranked in Q2,” emphasized Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong.

On behalf of the University’s current leadership, Prof. Pham Hong Chuong thanked the teachers who had served as University leaders over the years for their dedicated efforts, collaboration, and unity in building NEU into the strong institution it is today. He also expressed his wish that teachers would always serve as examples of ethics, dedication, and creativity, fully equipped to continue on the path of development in service of the nation’s education and training and NEU’s development, with complete confidence and hope for a bright future.

In keeping with the traditions of “respecting teachers and their teachings” and “remembering the source when drinking water,” November each year is an occasion for NEU and successive generations to express their affection and gratitude to teachers who have served as University leaders over the years, and to generations of People’s Teachers and Meritorious Teachers who have devoted their entire lives to education and training in Vietnam in general and at NEU in particular. During this special period, NEU also marked a special occasion: three more of its teachers were awarded the title of People’s Teacher and 10 the title of Meritorious Teacher by the State President in 2023 and 2024, and one teacher was honored as an Exemplary Teacher of the Education Sector.

At the ceremony, the University’s current leadership presented beautiful bouquets to generations of former leaders, People’s Teachers, Meritorious Teachers, and Exemplary Teachers, expressing the gratitude of the University’s teaching community on the occasion of November 20.

The gathering also featured a distinctive, elaborately prepared arts program themed “Sowers of Green Seeds,” dedicated especially to teachers to honor their invaluable and noble contributions to educating generations of students. It celebrated the journey of those who persistently and patiently sow tiny seeds, carefully tend and water them, and wait for them to sprout and bloom. Teachers are the sowers who nurture students: although inexperienced when they first enter the University, students become ready, through their studies and training, to embark on a journey of creating lasting value and contributing to society.

This arts program was not only a gift of encouragement but also a promise and an expression of gratitude from the present generation to teachers—those who have devoted their lives to imparting knowledge to younger generations and helping us become useful members of society.
