An overview of the gathering

Attending the gathering were Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chair of the University Council; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President of NEU; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President of NEU; Dr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chair of the NEU Trade Union; former University leaders; professors; members of the Science and Training Council and the Advisory Council; and representatives of the leadership of schools, departments, faculties, institutes, and centers.

Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18) is a deeply meaningful annual observance that honors those working in scientific research and research management and outstanding intellectuals in the country’s science and technology sector.

This year, the Ministry of Science and Technology selected the theme “Science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation: Breakthroughs to usher the country into an era of strength and prosperity” for Vietnam Science and Technology Day, demonstrating its determination to swiftly put into practice Politburo Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. NEU also recognizes that science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation are not only key drivers of improvements in the quality of education and research, but also strategic pillars for enhancing academic standing, increasing policy influence, and contributing directly to the country’s socioeconomic development.

Prof. Dr. To Trung Thanh, Head of the Department of Research Management, presents an overview of NEU’s achievements and science and technology strategy in the new context

During 2021-2024, NEU achieved comprehensive, outstanding, and substantive results across many aspects of its science and technology activities, continuing to affirm its leading position among universities specializing in economics, management, and business administration. NEU currently has the largest number of national- and ministerial-level research projects among these universities. A notable milestone was the Ministry of Science and Technology entrusting the University with leading the State-Level Key Program KX.01/21-30 on renewing the economic growth model—a program of national strategic significance that reflects the academic standing and leading research capacity of NEU.

The 2021-2024 period also marked major advances in NEU’s science and technology activities, with comprehensive achievements in research quantity and quality, international publications, policy advice, and global cooperation. These results not only affirmed its leading academic position in Vietnam but also helped elevate NEU’s academic standing internationally.

University leaders and delegates exchange views and offer feedback

University leaders affirmed that science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation are strategic pillars for improving the quality of education, research, and policy advice and increasing NEU’s academic influence.

We are entering a new phase, full of opportunities but also considerable challenges. Successfully implementing the science and technology development strategy for 2025-2030 will play a decisive role in elevating NEU’s standing, both domestically and internationally. This success requires unity, collective intelligence, and a strong spirit of innovation from all of the University’s faculty, staff, and scientists.
