Conference to Review Trade Union Activities in the Fall 2024 Semester and Set Out Key Activities for the First Quarter of 2025

On the morning of January 8, 2025, the National Economics University (NEU) Trade Union held a conference to review Trade Union activities in the Fall 2024 semester and set out key activities for the first quarter of 2025.

An overview of the dialogue

Attending the conference were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President; Dr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the NEU Trade Union; members of the NEU Trade Union Executive Committee and Inspection Committee; heads and deputy heads of working committees; chairs and vice chairs of constituent trade unions; and chairs of clubs across the University.

MSc. Nguyen Hoang Ha, Head of the Department of Political Affairs and Student Management, presents the report reviewing activities in the Fall 2024 semester and setting out key activities for the first quarter of 2025

At the conference, delegates heard a report reviewing activities in the Fall 2024 semester and setting out key activities for the first quarter of 2025. The 2024-2025 academic year marks the fourth year of implementing the resolutions of Party congresses at all levels, and the second year in which the NEU Trade Union is implementing the Resolution of its 34th Congress for the 2023-2028 term and the resolutions of higher-level Trade Union congresses.

In addition, on December 2, 2024, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam National Union of Education signed Decision No. 459/QĐ-CĐN renaming the Trade Union of National Economics University (NEU) as the NEU Trade Union.

The NEU Trade Union established two new constituent trade unions (those of the Faculty of Fundamental Sciences and the Faculty of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence) and split two constituent trade unions (those of the Institute of Information Technology and Digital Economy and the Faculty of Mathematical Economics), bringing the total number of constituent trade unions under the grassroots Trade Union to 52. It also directed appointments to fill and consolidate the chair and vice chair positions in the newly established and split trade unions…

Through the presentation of the report reviewing activities in the Fall 2024 semester and setting out key activities for the first quarter of 2025, the NEU Trade Union disseminated its work plan for the coming semester to the entire Executive Committee, constituent trade unions, and working committees. Based on the work programs, the NEU Trade Union assigns tasks to its committees, which will translate them into specific activity programs for each stage, under the supervision and inspection of Standing Committee members responsible for the respective areas of work, who will also follow up to ensure implementation.

Overall, the NEU Trade Union successfully implemented the objectives and tasks set for the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. It promptly updated and applied information technology to improve efficiency and carry out activities in a timely manner. As a result, all NEU Trade Union activities met their stated objectives and fulfilled the functions of the Trade Union organization, contributing to the effective fulfillment of the University’s political tasks. However, several shortcomings remain to be addressed: the quality of work among constituent trade union officers is uneven. Some constituent trade unions have not been proactive in helping organize joint activities. Constituent trade unions have limited operating funds and depend largely on their units’ financial resources. Consequently, many units lack sufficient funding to organize activities that attract and connect their members.

Also at the conference, Dr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the NEU Trade Union, outlines activities celebrating the 69th anniversary of National Economics University and welcoming the University’s Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term

Members of the NEU Trade Union Executive Committee and delegates exchange views and offer feedback at the conference

At the conference, representatives of Trade Union members shared some difficulties encountered in carrying out their duties and offered directions, proposals, and solutions for the NEU Trade Union to improve the living conditions and well-being of faculty and staff, and to make Trade Union activities more substantive, practical, and effective in the coming period.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President, delivers remarks

In his closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President of NEU, acknowledged the NEU Trade Union’s activities to date, reaffirming his high regard for and confidence in its work. He expressed his hope that its members would continue to build on their achievements, remain united, proactive, and creative, and focus their collective intellectual efforts on effectively carrying out their tasks in the Spring 2025 semester.

The achievements of the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, together with the collective efforts of staff, public employees, and workers, inspire confidence that the NEU Trade Union will achieve even greater success and more outstanding results in its work and activities in the coming semester.
