Conference to Gather Feedback on Quality Self-Assessment Reports for Undergraduate Distance Education Programs in Accounting and Business Administration

On August 22 and 23, 2024, National Economics University (NEU) organized a conference in Quang Ninh City to gather feedback on quality self-assessment reports for its undergraduate distance education programs in Accounting and Business Administration.

An overview of the conference

Attending the conference were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dam Quang Vinh, Director of the Center for Distance Education; leadership representatives from departments, faculties, schools, and centers; members of the academic program self-assessment councils, their secretariats, and specialized working groups; and staff of the Center for Distance Education.

Vietnam’s higher education system is undergoing development and improvement in both quality and scale, in line with global trends in higher education. Assessment, quality assurance, and quality accreditation activities have begun to have positive effects on management and education at higher education institutions.

Educational quality has always been a top priority for NEU. Self-assessment is therefore an important step in the University’s development and educational quality assurance process. For the undergraduate distance education program (NEU E-learning), self-assessment helps the University identify strengths and remaining shortcomings and develop action plans to improve and enhance the quality of education in the NEU E-learning program.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President of NEU, delivers remarks

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President, noted that NEU’s undergraduate distance education programs in Accounting and Business Administration have built their brand and reputation over the years by offering bachelor’s education in these fields in Vietnam. Assoc. Prof. Bui Huy Nhuong emphasized that educational quality has always been a top priority for NEU. Self-assessment is an important step in educational development and quality assurance. Through self-assessment, units can identify their strengths and, especially, shortcomings that need improvement, enabling them to develop corrective action plans to improve educational quality. Preparing the self-assessment reports would help faculty and staff in the relevant units, including the School of Accounting and Auditing and the Faculty of Business Administration, reflect on their own work, reassess their academic programs, and strengthen their autonomy and accountability for the academic programs that generations of lecturers and staff in their units have devoted themselves to building and developing.

Assoc. Prof. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President, expressed confidence that the conference would serve as a catalyst for enhancing the educational quality of NEU’s academic programs in general, and its undergraduate and graduate programs in Accounting and Business Administration in particular, in the future. He also expressed hope that the self-assessment reports would provide sound preparation and a foundation for the NEU E-learning program to meet the standards for the forthcoming external assessment by the academic program quality accreditation body.
