Attending the program on behalf of the Hanoi Youth Union were Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of the Youth Union Central Committee and President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association; and Chu Hong Minh, Secretary of the Hanoi Youth Union. Representing NEU were Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU; Vu Tri Tuan, Secretary of the NEU Youth Union; leadership representatives from departments, faculties, institutes and centers; and a large number of the University’s Youth Union members and students.
The capital’s Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign runs from May through the end of October 2024 under the motto “Pioneering – Creative – Safe – Effective,” with the goal of encouraging the capital’s youth to take the lead in volunteering for community well-being and effectively implementing the three-linkage approach: linking forces, linking localities and linking communities.
The Hanoi Youth Union will coordinate approximately 15,000 volunteers citywide to support localities, focusing on five core areas: advancing digital transformation; contributing to new rural development and transferring science and technology in line with professional expertise; providing advice, training and support for youth entrepreneurship and innovation; building and maintaining urban civility; helping address social welfare issues; and volunteering for border and island communities.
The campaign aims to attract 100,000 instances of participation by Youth Union members and young people in volunteer activities; maintain and establish at least 80 streets meeting urban civility standards; invest in and support the development of at least 100 activity and play spaces for young people and children; repair at least 80 km of rural roads; support the implementation of 2,000 ideas and initiatives; provide career and employment counseling for at least 150,000 Youth Union members and young people; support at least 80 innovative startup projects; and assist approximately 8,500 disadvantaged children…

Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU, delivers remarks.
Speaking at the program, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU, the event’s host institution, affirmed that young people constitute a major social force and one of the important factors determining the nation’s future and destiny and realizing the aspiration for a prosperous and happy country. Throughout his life, President Ho Chi Minh always cared for Youth Union members and young people. He once reminded them: “Young people must volunteer to go to the places with the greatest difficulties and hardships; wherever others achieve limited results, young people must volunteer to go and do the work well.” In his sacred Testament, he advised: “The Party must foster revolutionary ethics among Youth Union members and young people, training them to become successors in building socialism who are both ‘red’ and ‘expert.’” Guided by his teachings and under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, successive generations of Vietnamese youth have joined forces in solidarity with the entire Party, people and armed forces to overcome every difficulty and hardship, achieving many glorious feats in the struggle for national liberation and national development.
Prof. Pham Hong Chuong emphasized that the Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign offers NEU students an opportunity to bring their youthful energy and enthusiasm to work alongside the City of Hanoi in contributing to society. It is an occasion for personal development, strengthening knowledge and skills, and helping those in difficult circumstances, thereby contributing to sustainable community development. Students will participate in a range of activities in education, the environment, healthcare and community support. These activities will help them better understand social responsibility and their role in building a developed country. He also expressed confidence that, with their dynamism and sense of responsibility, students would fulfill their tasks exceptionally well, achieve positive results and leave a memorable mark.
