c. Applicants who do not hold an international English certificate meeting the requirements in Section I.2.1 must take the English placement test (grammar, listening, reading, and writing).

I.2.3. Basis and Method for Calculating Admissions Scores

Admissions results are based on the Admissions Score, the KTTH test score (or KTTH substitute score), and the interview score.

The Admissions Score (TS score) is a composite of the following component scores: (i) high school score (PT); (ii) KTTH test score or KTTH substitute score; and (iii) interview score (PV). The Admissions Score is calculated as follows:

TS score = 2 x PT + 5 x KTTH + 3 x PV + Admissions bonus points (if any)

Where:

  • PT: the arithmetic mean of the full-year Grade 12 scores in Mathematics, Literature, and Foreign Language 1;
  • KTTH: the KTTH test score;
  • KTTH substitute score: see Section I.2.2;
  • PV: the interview score;
  • Admissions bonus points: available to applicants with an international IELTS certificate with a score of 6.5 or higher, or equivalent, issued on or after May 1, 2023, excluding “Home Edition” or “Online” tests (see the conversion table in Appendix 2).

The coefficients 2, 5, and 3 are the weights assigned to component scores converted to a 10-point scale.

I.2.4. Admission and Enrollment

Applicants are admitted to the Program if they meet the English language requirements in Section I.2.1, have KTTH test scores (or KTTH substitute scores) and interview scores at or above the minimum component scores, and have an admissions score at or above the minimum admissions score. The Admissions Council determines the minimum component scores and minimum admissions score to meet the Program’s quality assurance threshold.

Applicants whose KTTH test scores (or KTTH substitute scores) and interview scores meet the minimum component scores and whose admissions score meets or exceeds the minimum admissions score, but who have not met the English language requirements, are granted conditional admission. They are placed in classes based on their English placement test results and must meet the English language requirements within the deadline specified in the Program’s Academic Regulations (see also Appendix 1).

Applicants are eligible to enroll in the Program if they hold a high school diploma, a provisional high school graduation certificate, or an equivalent qualification. Applicants using international certificates or diplomas must complete the recognition procedures under Vietnam’s regulations on qualification recognition to be eligible for enrollment.

See Appendix 1 of this Announcement for further details on the requirements for completing the first year, undertaking specialized studies, and transferring for each major.

II. Admissions Quota

  • The total admissions quota for the IBD@NEU program in 2025 is 885.
  • If the number of applicants registering for a major does not meet the minimum class size (25 students), the Institute of International Education will transfer applicants to another major based on the preferences ranked in their application.
