Scientific Conference on “Sustainable Resource Management and Promotion of Transparent, Responsible Agricultural and Food Value Chains in the New Context”

On October 22, 2026, at the National Economics University, the national scientific conference themed “Sustainable Resource Management and Promotion of Transparent, Responsible Agricultural and Food Value Chains in the New Context” was held in collaboration with the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, Hanoi Capital University, and the Department of Cooperative Economy and Rural Development (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment).

The conference is part of a series of activities commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Faculty of Real Estate and Resource Economics, leading up to the 70th anniversary of the National Economics University (1956–2026).

Conference Overview

Attending the conference were, from outside the university: Dr. Nguyen Thanh Son – Member of the City Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Block of Universities and Colleges in Hanoi; Dr. Le Duc Thinh – Director of the Department of Cooperative Economy, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Truong – Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of Hanoi University of Mining and Geology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Tuan – Vice Rector of Hanoi Capital University; Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Hoa – Director of the Institute of Water Resources Science. From the National Economics University: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Tho – Secretary of the Party Committee, Director of the University; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Anh – Vice Director of the University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Thao – Head of the Faculty of Real Estate and Resource Economics; along with representatives from state management agencies, research institutes, higher education institutions, businesses, and a large number of experts, scientists, lecturers, doctoral candidates, and students.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Anh – Vice Director of the National Economics University speaking

In his opening remarks at the conference, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Anh – Vice Director of the National Economics University emphasized the significance of enhancing interdisciplinary research in the context of climate change, natural resource depletion, energy transition requirements, and the implementation of sustainable development goals, which are posing new challenges to the economy.

Accordingly, sustainable resource management and the development of transparent, responsible agricultural and food value chains are two closely related issues. Land resources, water resources, minerals, and energy are essential inputs in the production process, while improving quality, traceability, and environmental responsibility are becoming increasingly important requirements for agricultural and food supply chains.

From an economic and management perspective, the efficient exploitation and use of resources need to be placed in relation to market instruments, energy transition policies, and green growth goals. In the agricultural sector, the demand for information transparency, traceability, and compliance with environmental standards requires transformation in production organization, value chain management, and market access approaches.

The leadership of the National Economics University highly values the collaboration between co-organizing units, thereby connecting strengths in economic research, management, and policy with the fields of resource science, energy, environment, and public administration practice. This combination contributes to establishing a foundation for multidimensional academic exchanges, aiming to build scientific arguments to support policy formulation and socio-economic development.

On the occasion of the Conference held during the 70th anniversary of the founding of the National Economics University and the Faculty of Real Estate and Resource Economics, the university leadership acknowledges the contributions of generations of staff, faculty members, scientists, and learners of the Faculty to the activities of training, research, and development in the fields of resource economics, land management, agriculture, and real estate.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Truong – Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology delivers a speech

In presenting the introductory report, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Truong – Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, reflected on the formation and development of the interdisciplinary scientific forum among educational and research institutions. Originating from the initiative to connect academics between lecturers and scientists of the National Economics University and the Hanoi University of Mining and Geology, the Conference was first organized in 2024 and continued in 2025 with the theme of managing, exploiting, and sustainably using resources in an integrated economy.

Entering 2026, the scope of discussion expanded to the agricultural and food value chain, attracting the participation of experts, managers, and scientists from various fields. According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Truong, the conference theme reflects an integrated approach linking resources, energy, food, and ecosystems, where sustainable development issues need to be considered in an interdisciplinary and interregional context.

From this orientation, the introductory report suggests key issues to focus on, including mechanisms for linking natural resource management with restructuring the agricultural and food value chain; solutions to promote energy transition and efficiently exploit resources; improving institutions and policies for carbon market development; along with recommendations to remove barriers to green credit, digital transformation, and agricultural value chain management in Vietnam.

Referring to the prospects for research collaboration, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Truong expressed the desire for units to continue enhancing coordination in implementing interdisciplinary research programs, while also exploring the potential to develop the scientific forum towards expanding connections with international scientists in the future.

Within the framework of the Conference, the discussion session focused on five key themes, reflecting issues in sustainable resource management, development of the agricultural and food value chain, energy transition, carbon market development, and policy improvement towards green growth.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Thi Phuong Thao – Head of the Faculty of Real Estate and Resource Economics, National Economics University, presents the paper “Trends in Transforming the Agricultural and Food Chain for Transparency, Responsibility, and Sustainability in the Global Agri-Food System Linked to Efficient Resource Exploitation”

Dr. Nguyen Huu Nhuan – Vietnam Academy of Agriculture presents the paper “Developing a Transparent, Responsible, and Sustainable Agricultural and Food Chain. International Experiences and Policy Implications for Vietnam”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Thinh – Hanoi University of Mining and Geology presents the paper “Exploiting and Efficiently Using Offshore Wind Energy in Vietnam Linked to Promoting Energy Transition and Sustainable Development”

Dr. Dang Thi Minh Hien – Hanoi Capital University presents the paper “Developing the Carbon Market in Vietnam Towards Green Growth: Opportunities, Challenges, and Policy Solutions”

MSc. Bui Viet Anh – Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development presents the paper “Policies to Promote Transparent, Responsible, and Sustainable Agro-Food Chains in Vietnam”

The presentations demonstrated a diversity of approaches to the challenge of sustainable development, ranging from efficient use of natural resources, energy transition to policy innovation, and enhancing responsibility in agro-food supply chains.

According to the Organizing Committee, the conference received over 60 submissions from experts, scientists, managers, lecturers, doctoral candidates, and students. The selected papers were edited and compiled in the conference proceedings, contributing to the research resources and academic exchange on related issues.

Delegates attending the Conference

Following the presentations, the open discussion session provided a forum for scientists, experts, and representatives from management agencies to exchange practical issues, share diverse perspectives, and discuss solutions to enhance resource management efficiency, promote energy transition, and develop agro-food value chains in a transparent, responsible, and sustainable manner.

By connecting higher education institutions, management agencies, research institutes, and enterprises, the conference contributed to promoting interdisciplinary research collaboration and strengthening the link between scientific knowledge and practical demands. The issues raised at the forum also opened new directions for research and policy exchange aimed at efficient resource utilization, enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese agro-products, and moving towards a green, transparent, and responsible economic development model.
