Conference to Review the Fall 2023 Semester and Launch Key Activities for the First Quarter of 2024

On the afternoon of January 11, 2023, the Trade Union of National Economics University (NEU) held a conference to review the Fall 2023 semester and launch several key activities for the first quarter of 2024.

Attending the conference were Dr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the NEU Trade Union; members of the NEU Trade Union Executive Committee and Inspection Committee; heads and deputy heads of working committees; chairs and vice chairs of constituent trade unions; and chairs of clubs across the University.

The sector-wide campaign “Innovation and creativity in teaching and learning” continued to be implemented in line with the University’s activities. Activities under the motto “Innovation and creativity in teaching, research, and service” reached every union member and constituent trade union and were coordinated with the University’s emulation and commendation work, yielding positive results. The University recognized 524 initiatives in teaching, research, and service. Emulation and commendation work generated widespread participation among union members, making an important contribution to the outstanding fulfillment of the University’s political tasks. The initiatives contributed by union members, staff, public employees, and workers participating in the movement all had high socioeconomic value, helping advance management and administrative reform and supporting the recovery and development of production and business activities at units and enterprises.

At the conference, the NEU Trade Union Executive Committee presented certificates of merit from the Vietnam National Union of Education to two University public employees and workers for their outstanding achievements in the emulation movement “One million initiatives—striving to overcome difficulties, demonstrating creativity, and resolving to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic.”

One collective and two individuals received certificates of merit from the Vietnam National Union of Education for outstanding achievements in implementing the program “One million initiatives—striving to overcome difficulties, demonstrating creativity, and resolving to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Also at the conference, delegates heard the report reviewing the first semester of the 2023-2024 academic year and outlining directions and tasks for the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. The NEU Trade Union developed work plans for the first and second semesters of the 2023-2024 academic year suited to the unit’s actual circumstances and effectively implemented the established work plans and programs.

Through the conference reviewing trade union work in the 2022-2023 academic year and launching work for the 2023-2024 academic year, the NEU Trade Union communicated the academic year’s work plan extensively to the entire Executive Committee, constituent trade unions, and working committees. Based on the work programs, the NEU Trade Union assigned tasks to its committees, which would translate them into quarterly and monthly activity programs under the supervision, inspection, and guidance of Standing Committee members responsible for the respective areas of work.

The NEU Trade Union largely achieved the objectives and tasks set for the first semester of the 2023-2024 academic year. However, several shortcomings still needed to be addressed. The quality of work by constituent trade union officials was uneven, and some constituent trade unions were not proactive in helping organize joint activities. Funding for constituent trade union activities was limited and depended largely on the financial resources of their respective units. As a result, many units lacked sufficient funding to organize activities that would attract union members and strengthen connections among them within their units.

Also at the conference, Dr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the NEU Trade Union, outlined activities celebrating the 68th anniversary of National Economics University and provided guidance on several important matters for the coming semester.

The results achieved in the first semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, together with the collective efforts of public employees, educators, and workers, inspire confidence that the NEU Trade Union will achieve further successes and new accomplishments in its work and activities during the 2023-2024 academic year.
