IBD@NEU Spring 2024 Admissions Interviews Through Applicants’ Eyes
On January 21–23, 2024, the entrance interviews for the Spring 2024 admissions round of the IBD@NEU International Bachelor’s Program took place in an open and warm atmosphere at Lecture Building D2—the shared home of students at the Institute of International Education. The interviews also gave faculty members an opportunity to learn more about each applicant and their aspirations for the program and their future field of study.

The admissions interview panel included faculty members from the Institute of International Education and National Economics University, teachers from general education schools, and business representatives.

Faculty members spoke with applicants to make an initial assessment of their potential and determine whether they were a good fit for the academic program’s objectives.
The interview is one of three important tests in each IBD@NEU admissions round, so applicants understandably felt anxious. Conversations with several applicants waiting for their turn revealed that they felt tense and nervous, yet also confident and excited to share the knowledge and information they had prepared with faculty members. They had carefully researched IBD’s learning environment and academic program, reflected on themselves, and considered the views and thinking they had expressed in their application essays.

For the IBD@NEU Program, writing an essay and attending an in-person interview are mandatory requirements that ask each applicant to express their views, core values, and future plans, giving them an opportunity to present themselves at their best.
In one interview room, an applicant shared particularly interesting insights based on their knowledge of IBD@NEU, especially the Digital Marketing major. Asked about an ideal university environment, the applicant said: “My ideal university environment is an international environment where I can study in Vietnam and remain close to my family, with an academic program equivalent to studying abroad but at a reasonable cost. In addition, I can improve and practice my English through daily communication and take practical courses.” The applicant also expressed a particular interest in Digital Marketing, sharing: “I have gained a little experience in Digital Marketing by reselling study materials or selling items in video games. Although my experience is limited, it has helped me learn more about how to market my products most effectively.”

I feel that I have qualities suited to this field, such as responsibility, dedication, composure, and logical thinking. I believe that IBD@NEU’s quality academic program will equip me with the knowledge and skills needed to become a capable finance and banking professional.”

Faculty members listened to applicants and offered clearer guidance on their field of study.
Having just completed his interview, Nguyen Duc Tien, a 12th-grade student at Luong The Vinh High School, said: “Before the interview, I prepared myself to feel confident, but I could not help feeling anxious. Once I entered the room and saw how friendly and open the faculty members were, I found it easier to express myself more fully. I simply spoke honestly about myself and my personal experiences.” Duc Tien also shared how he had practiced for that day’s interview: speaking in front of a mirror, maintaining eye contact, and smiling frequently to build rapport and ease the tension.
