Nearly 6,500 High School Students Experience “A Day as an NEU Student”
On the morning of March 10, 2024, National Economics University (NEU) organized the “A Day as an NEU Student” experiential program, attracting nearly 6,500 high school students from provinces and cities across the country to participate in person.
High school students attending the program received advice on admissions and bachelor’s academic programs at NEU.
Attending the program were Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU; Dr. Vu Trong Nghia, Head of the Department of Communications; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam, Dean of the Faculty of Law; Dr. Le Anh Duc, Deputy Head of the Department of Academic Affairs; Dr. Bui Kien Trung, Deputy Head of the Department of General Affairs; Dr. Truong Dinh Duc, Deputy Head of the Department of Political Affairs and Student Management; representatives of the leadership of departments, faculties, institutes, centers, and sociopolitical organizations; and numerous students and parents from provinces and cities including Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Hoa Binh, Thai Nguyen, Yen Bai, and Tuyen Quang…
As early as 6:00 a.m., many students arrived at NEU to take part in the experience. Through the program, high school students could tour one of the most modern university classroom complexes today, learn about the University’s history and traditions spanning more than 68 years, and receive advice on its bachelor’s academic programs. They could also interact, share experiences, and exchange ideas with current students, and take a test to identify majors suited to their strengths.
Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU, speaks at the program.
Speaking to the high school students attending the program, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU, noted that as they prepare to graduate from high school and enter university, they have many dreams. Some hope to become scientists or politicians, while others aspire to become entrepreneurs or doctors… “All these dreams deserve respect, because you will shape the country’s future and carry the hopes of preceding generations. Only by pursuing your dreams will you discover all your inherent potential and abilities,” Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong affirmed.
According to Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, NEU offers one of the best paths to help students realize their dreams. Its educational philosophy is “Creating smart pathways for each individual to become the best version of themselves and bring value to the community.” As NEU students, they will not only benefit personally but also receive the guidance and education needed to benefit the community and society and work toward becoming global citizens.
The President of NEU also noted that the University has a history of nearly 70 years of development and takes great pride in having the largest alumni network in Vietnam. Statistics show that many leaders in provinces, ministries, departments, and sectors are NEU alumni, as are many of the wealthiest people in the stock market today.
NEU’s lecturers combine outstanding expertise, demonstrated through research and awards, with dedication to their students. In addition, the University’s academic programs are the most up-to-date and advanced. NEU is one of the first universities in Vietnam to complete FIBAA’s quality accreditation process, with 100% of criteria meeting or exceeding standards. It is also the only public university to date to have 18 of its 60 academic programs accredited by the U.S. accreditation organization ACBSP. The University has also officially begun the process of becoming a member of AACSB, a prestigious global accreditation organization, with only 1% of business schools worldwide accredited by AACSB.
Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong also said that NEU is moving toward a “paperless” environment with reduced paper use. Students will study, take exams, and access public services entirely on computers. “However, one thing will never change: direct interaction between students and their teachers,” Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong said.
NEU is also implementing the Lecture – Seminar teaching model. Under this model, students who do not come to campus for Lecture classes can still follow classroom lectures online or download lecture videos to watch and study at any time. Seminar classes, with a maximum size of 25 to 30 students, require students to attend in person for discussions or practical coursework.
This new approach to learning requires better, more systematic class organization and more work from lecturers, and is the best method for students to apply all their knowledge, skills, and abilities to solving practical problems. At the same time, the University will separate learning from examinations and use software to make student assessment more objective and accurate and encourage greater self-discipline among students, thereby improving the quality of education.
“All these teaching and educational methods help you solve practical problems while still at university, so that you are ready to enter the world of work immediately after graduation. According to surveys in recent years, approximately 98% of NEU graduates found employment less than a year after graduation, and many received good job opportunities while still studying,” Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong said.
Dr. Le Anh Duc, Deputy Head of the Department of Academic Affairs, speaks at the event.
Speaking at the program, Dr. Le Anh Duc, Deputy Head of the Department of Academic Affairs, shared essential information with applicants about the University’s 2024 admissions.
According to Dr. Le Anh Duc, NEU will maintain stability in its admissions in 2024, from admission methods to the structure of its fields of study. Specifically, the University plans to admit a total of 6,200 students across 60 academic programs, comprising 37 programs taught entirely in Vietnamese, seven Profession-Oriented Higher Education (POHE) programs, and 16 programs taught in English.
NEU plans to introduce seven new majors, including five in technology, along with Labor Relations and Tourism. The University is currently in the final stages of completing the procedures to launch these majors.
In 2024, NEU will conduct admission review through three methods: direct admission (accounting for 2% of places); review based on 2024 high school graduation examination results (18% of places); and combined admission review under the University’s admissions plan (80% of places). For the combined admission review method, the University has discontinued the category combining enrollment in specialized tracks at specialized high schools nationwide or national key high schools with scores in two high school graduation examination subjects. This year’s places for that category have been allocated evenly among the remaining categories.
Applicants attending the program ask questions about NEU’s 2024 admissions.
Dr. Le Anh Duc also emphasized that applicants must first meet the entry threshold to submit an application and be considered for admission to the University. NEU will set different entry thresholds for each admission review method.
Applicants may register for all admission review methods announced by the University to maximize their opportunities in the admission review process, while helping the University identify applicants with the strongest entry results and those best suited to its academic programs. “Under the Ministry of Education and Training’s regulations, there is no limit to the number of university preferences applicants may submit. Thus, when applying to NEU, you may register preferences for as many majors and programs—or, in other words, admission codes—as the University offers. You only need to submit one application for all those preferences, online through the University’s system, and also register on the Ministry’s system. Regardless of how many applicant categories or preferences you apply under, the University charges only one fixed fee, which last year was VND 100,000 per applicant,” Dr. Le Anh Duc explained.

Students attending the program take part in various experiential and interactive activities and receive in-person advice from the University’s faculty, staff, and students.
This year, the “A Day as an NEU Student” program attracted nearly 6,500 high school student visits from various localities. Students were divided into groups, each accompanied by a guide providing commentary and student helpers, to tour areas of the University, including lecture halls, the cultural center, and the library. They also interacted with the University’s students through various other lively activities. In addition, they received guidance on taking a test to help them choose a major suited to their strengths.
