Controlling the Impacts of Air Pollution on Health and the Economy. Guest: Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Truong

In recent years, Vietnam has faced numerous challenges, including air pollution. This is not only a pressing issue in developed urban areas, industrial parks and industrial clusters, but also a concern for society as a whole. Air pollution is one of the leading factors seriously affecting public health. In Vietnam, six of the 10 diseases with the highest mortality rates are respiratory diseases linked to air pollution and air quality.

Air pollution also causes economic losses of approximately $10 billion each year in Vietnam. Meanwhile, many measures to control air pollution remain inadequate and ineffective.

For the fight against air pollution to deliver economic and health benefits, a coordinated and comprehensive system of solutions must be implemented immediately, including warnings, forecasts, advisories and the enforcement of policies to reduce activities that cause air pollution.

Prof. Dr. Dinh Duc Truong, Dean of the Faculty of Environment, Climate Change and Urban Studies at National Economics University (NEU), shared his insights and joined the discussion at the online seminar “Controlling the impacts of air pollution on health and the economy.”
