On behalf of NEU’s faculty and staff, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong warmly welcomed the delegates, teachers and, in particular, parents and students who had taken the time to show their interest in and attend the University’s Admissions and Career Guidance Day — NEU Open Day 2024 that day.

Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong noted that NEU was one of the first universities established after the historic Dien Bien Phu victory. Its core values are “Creativity – Solidarity – Integrity – Efficiency – Responsibility,” and its educational philosophy is “Creating smart pathways for each individual to become the best version of themselves and bring value to the community.” Over the 68 years since its founding, NEU has pioneered innovation and the development and dissemination of knowledge in economics, management and business administration, attracting and nurturing talent, providing high-quality human resources, and serving the country’s sustainable development.

Addressing the students, the President shared: “Each of us has dreams, and those dreams and aspirations may stay with us throughout our lives, becoming a powerful motivation to overcome difficulties and obstacles. I believe that among those of you in the hall today, some aspire to become successful entrepreneurs, owners of million-dollar businesses that create jobs for hundreds or thousands of people. Others wish to become politicians and leaders of ministries, agencies and localities… helping shape the future development of society. Surely, some of you also hope to become outstanding specialists in artificial intelligence or data science at businesses and organizations. All these dreams and aspirations are beautiful and worthy of respect. Most importantly, you will take your first steps toward realizing them when you become students at NEU.”

“With modern facilities, internationally accredited academic programs, extensive learning resources comparable to those of any university, and teaching staff with leading expertise in Vietnam, NEU offers you a dynamic educational environment with international connections. The University also leads the way in the digital era, with many modern, interdisciplinary academic programs that meet the needs and development trends of the country’s modernization. For the first time, you will encounter new concepts and tools such as digital learning resources, digital signatures, blended learning and smart classrooms… All these new and modern elements will accompany you throughout your wonderful student years,” the President emphasized.

Prof. Pham Hong Chuong also stated: “NEU ranks among Vietnam’s leading universities in terms of the quality of incoming students. Although this requires you to achieve excellent academic and examination results, it also means that, as NEU students, you will stand alongside the most outstanding members of your generation… NEU ranks among the top universities nationwide in terms of the proportion of graduates who find employment and create jobs for society, as well as their income one year after graduation. Generations of the University’s graduates have made important contributions to the development of industries and sectors in every part of the country. You can find NEU’s imprint in every organization and locality where you study or work. The University also has an extensive alumni network to be proud of, including many leading entrepreneurs and leaders in agencies of the Party, the National Assembly and the Government.”

“Today’s Admissions and Career Guidance Day — NEU Open Day 2024 is very important for you. I am confident that, with their enthusiasm and dedication, our teachers will share useful information and advice, and thoroughly answer questions from you and your parents about academic programs, fields of study, specializations, employment opportunities and trends. This will help you understand your strengths and weaknesses and future career trends, contributing to the realization of your dream of becoming NEU students. I hope you will make effective use of the valuable information gained at today’s Admissions and Career Guidance Day to find a specialization that you love and that matches your abilities. I wish you the best possible results in the upcoming examinations so that you can gain admission to NEU,” Prof. Pham Hong Chuong said.

Dr. Le Anh Duc, Deputy Head of the Department of Academic Affairs, provides an overview of full-time undergraduate admissions and new features of the University’s 2024 admissions plan

Speaking at the 2024 Admissions and Career Guidance Day, Dr. Le Anh Duc, Deputy Head of the Department of Academic Affairs, said that this year NEU would largely retain its 2023 admissions approach, with three admission review methods and a planned intake of 6,995 students for full-time undergraduate programs.

Also in 2024, the University is introducing six new fields of study/programs, including four taught in English (Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, and Entertainment and Event Management) and two taught in Vietnamese (Information Systems and Information Security). The admissions methods for these newly introduced program codes are the same as those for existing program codes.

Under the revised 2024 Undergraduate Admissions Plan, NEU will largely retain its 2023 admissions approach, with three admission review methods: direct admission under Ministry of Education and Training regulations (accounting for 2% of the intake), admission based on 2024 high school graduation examination scores (18% of the intake), and combined admission review under the University’s admissions plan (80% of the intake).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President of NEU, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Trieu, Head of the Department of Academic Affairs, offer advice and answer questions during the program

During the program, Dr. Le Anh Duc also highlighted important dates for 2024 full-time undergraduate admission review that applicants and parents should note. NEU’s online system for receiving applications for combined admission review and direct admission will be open from 8:00 a.m. on June 1 to 5:00 p.m. on June 25. Applicants can read the University’s notices and instructions and watch its instructional videos to submit their applications. Before 5:00 p.m. on July 10, the University will announce early admission review results on its web portal for applicants whose admission review does not depend on high school graduation examination scores.

From 8:00 a.m. on July 16 to 5:00 p.m. on July 20, applicants who have submitted applications for combined admission review under category three (combining an international English certificate with high school graduation examination scores in two subjects) must enter these scores into NEU’s system using their application accounts once they receive their examination results, so that the University has a basis for admission review. NEU will notify applicants in this category of their results before 5:00 p.m. on July 23. After the University announces the results, applicants eligible for admission under categories one, two and three of the combined admission review method must register their preferences on the Ministry of Education and Training’s common admissions support system in accordance with the regulations and overall timeline. Applicants who do not register on the Ministry’s system will not receive official admission even if they qualify under the combined admission review method. At 5:00 p.m. on August 19, NEU will announce the applicants officially admitted through direct admission, combined admission review for all three categories, and admission review based solely on high school graduation examination scores (or registration using subject combinations on the Ministry of Education and Training’s system). The University will then organize all activities related to enrollment, online enrollment confirmation and start-of-course activities.

NEU will hold the opening ceremony for its new cohort, K66, on September 8. To access official University information, Dr. Le Anh Duc advised applicants and parents to consult the Ministry of Education and Training’s information channels, NEU’s web portal and the admissions section of the Department of Academic Affairs’ portal. Students can also follow the admissions counseling Facebook page or the University’s fanpage for regular updates and the latest information. NEU has also developed multiple admissions counseling channels that interact directly with applicants 24/7, with a live chat window displayed on the Department of Academic Affairs’ website.

For combined admission review, one change from previous years is that NEU has removed a small category: review combining academic records and examination scores for outstanding students at specialized high schools. In addition, the University will use Hanoi University of Science and Technology’s thinking skills assessment results for admission review across all 66 admissions codes this year, rather than piloting their use for seven to eight codes as in the previous year. Another important change is that international English certificate scores will be converted to a 10-point scale instead of the previous 15-point scale, ensuring greater consistency and accuracy in accordance with Ministry of Education and Training regulations.

Faculty representatives from the leadership of the University’s units enthusiastically answer all questions from parents and students in detail

At the event, representatives from the leadership of NEU’s units answered questions from students and parents on a range of admissions matters, including many related to new majors and programs. At the counseling booths, students and parents also received introductions and detailed answers about majors, academic programs, study opportunities, career opportunities and more.

NEU’s Admissions and Career Guidance Day has become an essential destination each admissions season, providing applicants and parents with useful, necessary information before they decide to adjust their admission preferences. The program has certainly helped students and parents resolve some of their questions and concerns. It is hoped that the faculty members’ enthusiastic advice and answers will provide students with useful information to help them soon realize their dream of joining the NEU family.
