Exploring Vietnamese Culture at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology Through Summer Trip 2024 for Leeds Beckett University (UK) Students
On June 14, 2024, as part of Summer Trip 2024, the Faculty of Marketing collaborated with the Institute of International Education at National Economics University (NEU) to organize a trip to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology for students from Leeds Beckett University (UK) to explore Vietnamese culture.

The Summer Trip 2024 group arrived at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology early in the morning.
The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology is one of Vietnam’s leading museums, located on Nguyen Van Huyen Street, Cau Giay, Hanoi. Established in 1995, the museum preserves and displays thousands of artifacts and documents relating to Vietnam’s ethnic minorities and traditional cultures. Visitors can explore galleries featuring diverse collections of clothing, agricultural tools, sculptures, and paintings from different ethnic groups across the country, from north to south. This made the museum an essential destination for this year’s Summer Trip 2024.
The Leeds Beckett University students were deeply impressed by the museum’s exterior and surprised by its distinctive architecture.

The Leeds Beckett University students tour the museum with a guide.
A museum guide led the students through each area, where they could see numerous artifacts and exhibitions showcasing Vietnam’s rich history and heritage. From traditional clothing and musical instruments to ancient tools and household items, the museum offers a glimpse into the daily lives of Vietnam’s different ethnic groups. The students showed great interest and listened attentively to the guide. Through this experience, everyone gained a deeper understanding of Vietnamese culture and became even more curious and engaged.

The international students are delighted by the scenes reflecting Vietnamese culture at the museum.
After exploring the museum, the students took a break and had an opportunity to experience Vietnamese cuisine at Truc Lam Restaurant on the museum grounds. With a wide range of choices, including delicious dishes such as pho and banh mi, they enjoyed the distinctive aromas and colors of Vietnamese cuisine. Although they had already experienced Vietnamese cuisine at Quan An Ngon during their company visit, the Leeds Beckett University students were still very eager to eat traditional Vietnamese dishes.

In addition to exploring the museum and enjoying delicious food, the students had an opportunity to visit distinctive architectural structures found in Vietnam. They saw firsthand the venue for artistic water puppet performances, admired the intricate designs of a traditional three-compartment house, and explored the structure of a traditional stilt house firsthand. The students also tried climbing the stilt house’s steep staircase. Although they were somewhat nervous because the steps were narrow and steep, everyone enthusiastically gave it a try and had a memorable experience.

The Leeds Beckett University students were very excited after this meaningful trip.
The visit to the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology concluded amid the students’ cheerful conversation and lively discussions, marking the halfway point of Summer Trip 2024. It is hoped that the remaining activities will continue to provide wonderful experiences for Leeds Beckett University faculty and students.
