To mark the 77th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day on July 27 (1947–2024), on the morning of July 26, a delegation from National Economics University (NEU), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President of NEU, visited and presented gifts to wounded and sick veterans at Lang Giang Wounded Veterans Nursing Center in Bac Giang Province.

An overview of the program
The delegation also included Dr. Nguyen Huu Dong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the NEU Trade Union; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Trieu, Vice Chairman of the NEU Veterans’ Association; MSc. Bui Duc Dung, Head of the Department of General Affairs; Dr. Truong Dinh Duc, Deputy Head of the Department of Political Affairs and Student Management; MSc. Nguyen Duc Nhan, Deputy Secretary of the NEU Youth Union and President of the Student Association; and faculty and staff of the University.
Speaking at the event, Nguyen Van Tuat, Director of Lang Giang Wounded Veterans Nursing Center, welcomed and thanked the NEU delegation for visiting, offering encouragement and presenting gifts to the wounded and sick veterans at the center. This gesture reflected the care and solidarity of NEU’s leadership and faculty toward those who had made sacrifices and shed their blood to defend the country.
Nguyen Van Tuat said that Lang Giang Wounded Veterans Nursing Center currently provides care and nursing for 35 wounded and sick veterans from various provinces and cities across the country who served in the resistance wars against France and the United States and during the period of national defense and construction. All wounded and sick veterans receiving treatment at the center have disability ratings of more than 81%. These veterans come from provinces and cities nationwide; the oldest is 92 and the youngest is 56… As a result of the war, many suffer from cardiovascular, respiratory, kidney, liver and lung diseases… In particular, changes in the weather often cause their conditions to flare up, causing them pain.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Trieu, Vice Chairman of the NEU Veterans’ Association, speaks at the event.
Speaking at the event on behalf of NEU’s faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Trieu, Vice Chairman of the NEU Veterans’ Association, expressed sincere and profound gratitude for the great service, contributions and sacrifices of fallen soldiers, wounded and sick veterans, and families with meritorious service, who helped defend, build and develop the country. “Although the war ended long ago, we owe the independence and freedom we enjoy today to the sacrifices and losses of heroic fallen soldiers, wounded and sick veterans, and families with meritorious service to the country. Millions of the nation’s outstanding sons and daughters bravely sacrificed their lives on battlefields everywhere. The wounded and sick veterans at the center still bear the physical and emotional scars of war…”
The Vice Chairman of the NEU Veterans’ Association also thanked the center’s leadership for their ongoing care and emotional support, which help wounded and sick veterans receive treatment with peace of mind. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Trieu conveyed greetings, encouragement and sympathy for the pain of their injuries from NEU’s leadership and faculty to the wounded and sick veterans. He also expressed his hope that they would continue to uphold the qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, overcome difficulties and their injuries, and lead happy, healthy lives. NEU’s younger generation pledges to learn from and strive to follow the example of heroes, wounded veterans and fallen soldiers, and to continue inspiring future generations to follow in their forebears’ footsteps and build the country.
On this occasion, on behalf of NEU’s faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Dr. Nguyen Huu Dong and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Trieu presented gifts to the center, as well as numerous gifts to the wounded and sick veterans receiving treatment there.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Dr. Nguyen Huu Dong and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Duc Trieu present gifts to Bui Van Lam, a 92-year-old wounded veteran, and Nguyen Van Duc, who is over 80.
Although Nguyen Van Duc is over 80, his eyes still shine with fire as he recalls his time on the battlefield and recounts battles won against the enemy. Then, suddenly overcome with emotion, his eyes redden and fill with tears as he speaks of comrades who fell and sacrificed their lives… Yet he always reminds himself that a soldier must not cry, but must rise again to fight the enemy.
Bui Van Lam, a wounded veteran with an 81% disability rating, is now 92, but he still vividly remembers the name of every comrade who fought shoulder to shoulder with him, the resounding victories, and the battles in which his side suffered immense losses… Mr. Lam shared these memories.
The war ended long ago, but these soldiers must still “fight” through surgeries, devastating diseases and the psychological aftereffects of war, living with bodies that are no longer whole… All of this deepens our gratitude and appreciation for the contributions and sacrifices of earlier generations to regain independence and freedom for the nation and the country.
We wish the veterans, including wounded and sick veterans, good health and peace of mind during treatment, and hope they lead happy, healthy lives, uphold the revolutionary spirit and character of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, and set a shining example for their children, grandchildren and the younger generation to learn from and follow.

The delegation warmly asks after and encourages wounded and sick veterans receiving treatment at the center.
As part of the program, the delegation also paid respects at the center’s cemetery, where wounded and sick veterans who died from the aftereffects and impact of war are laid to rest.
