“Blockchain and AI: Mastering Technology, Mastering the Future”

On October 17, 2024, the Institute of Blockchain Technology and Artificial Intelligence (ABAII) and the Vietnam Blockchain Association (VBA) organized ABAII Unitour 14 at National Economics University (NEU), under the theme “Blockchain and AI: Mastering Technology, Mastering the Future.” The event attracted nearly 1,000 students, mostly from technology and finance disciplines, including those at NEU’s College of Technology.

The event attracted nearly 1,000 NEU students

Representing NEU at the event were Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Rector of the College of Technology; Dr. Nguyen Manh The, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematical Economics; Dr. Le Anh Duc, Deputy Head in charge of the Department of Academic Affairs; leadership representatives from departments, faculties, institutes, and centers; and the University’s faculty, staff, and students.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Nguyen Quang Huy, Rector of the College of Technology, NEU, said that blockchain and especially AI are not merely trends but also major opportunities for Vietnam to strengthen its position in the global digital economy. Students need to grasp and master these technologies to meet labor market demands and take control of their own futures.

Blockchain and AI have been reshaping the digital economy and are also key to opening international career paths for younger generations. Mastering these technologies will give students a competitive advantage in the labor market.

According to McKinsey’s 2023 report, AI generates approximately USD 4,000 billion each year for the global economy, with marketing, sales, and software development being the sectors most affected. Meanwhile, a Microsoft report shows that workers across all age groups, from Gen Z (ages 18–28), Millennials (ages 29–43), and Gen X (ages 44–57) to Boomers (over age 58), are increasingly accepting and using AI as an indispensable tool for learning and work, with adoption rates ranging from 73% to 85%.

Assessing AI’s impact on the labor market, particularly for technology students, MSc. Nguyen Thanh Tuan, who holds a master’s degree in Machine Learning and is a lecturer in the Faculty of Mathematical Economics, NEU, also emphasized that AI not only helps businesses optimize performance but also creates major, unprecedented opportunities. Tuan cited several notable AI applications, including the Virtual Service Desk Agent (VSDA), a virtual assistant that provides powerful support for the IT sector and can cut waiting times by 99% and reduce working time for customer service departments by up to 40%. AI is also being widely applied in many other fields, such as supply chains and mathematics, with advanced technologies such as self-driving vehicles and smart warehouse management systems fundamentally changing how these traditional fields operate.

Notably, the program also provided a forum for students to engage directly with experts during a panel discussion on “Employment Trends in Blockchain and AI: Opportunities for Students to Develop Skills and Increase Income,” featuring leading blockchain and AI experts.

Speakers exchange views and share insights at the event

Addressing concerns that AI could replace humans, Dr. Luong Van Thien, a lecturer in the Faculty of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, College of Technology, NEU, emphasized that AI will replace many repetitive jobs, particularly in the service sector, but will also create new career opportunities that have never existed before. In particular, Vietnamese students, with their competitive advantages in skills and willingness to adapt, could become preferred candidates in the international labor market in the near future.

As part of the program, ABAII also offered students special benefits when registering for training courses on AI Applications for Students on MasterTeck, Vietnam’s leading online learning platform for blockchain and AI. MasterTeck offers more than 300 courses focusing on 24 attractive, high-paying occupations and provides reputable international certifications from EC Council, CompTIA, and PECB. Holding these international certifications will give students a significant advantage when entering the global labor market.

Following the success of its 14th program at the College of Technology, NEU, ABAII Unitour—a series of activities aimed at promoting widespread knowledge of blockchain and AI and opening new career opportunities for students—will continue at Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics and Finance, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Hue University, and many other reputable universities nationwide.
