Representing NEU were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dam Quang Vinh, Director of the Center for Distance Education; representatives of the leadership of departments, faculties, institutes, and centers; researchers; and the University’s faculty and staff.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President, delivers remarks.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President of NEU, shared that, with the rapid expansion of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, E-learning is gradually establishing itself as an important mode of education in the education systems of most countries, including Vietnam. With advantages such as flexibility and convenience in terms of study time and location, E-learning enables learners to study anytime, anywhere and take an active role in acquiring knowledge. Particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning, or E-learning, has been highly valued by society and has become a trend and a solution for education at all levels, especially higher education.

Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Hieu noted that NEU was one of the first universities in Vietnam to apply technology to education, particularly through the implementation of an undergraduate distance education program using E-learning.

In 2006, in line with global educational development trends, NEU established the Center for Distance Education with the task of organizing and developing forms of E-Learning distance education. Over nearly 20 years since its establishment, the Center for Distance Education at NEU has taken pride in pioneering the application of advanced technology in higher education, fulfilling the noble mission of ensuring that “Everyone has opportunities to learn and pursue lifelong learning.”

With the goal of becoming one of the leading universities in the region and achieving a high global ranking, NEU clearly recognizes the importance of applying technology to education, especially during the current period of rapid digital transformation. The NEU-Elearning distance education program is one of the key programs demonstrating the University’s determination to maximize the application of technology in education, both to personalize learning and to facilitate access for learners seeking to enhance their qualifications and knowledge.

Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President of NEU, emphasized that, in operating and implementing the program, NEU seeks to hear presentations and diverse perspectives from researchers and experts in relevant fields; technology partners and companies; and lecturers and students who have taught or studied, or are currently teaching or studying, in online academic programs. The aim is to keep abreast of new technology trends and learn from valuable implementation experience, thereby improving the quality of online education at the University in particular and in higher education in general.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Xuan Hau, Deputy Director of the Center for Distance Education, presents the paper “Artificial intelligence in online education: Perspectives from higher education institutions, learners, and the business community.”

Dr. Dang Huong Giang, Head of the Division of Banking and Insurance, University of Economics – Technology for Industries, presents the paper “Applying gamification in online education.”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Minh Hoang, Dean of the Faculty of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, NEU, presents the paper “Optimizing exam scheduling for distance education at National Economics University.”

During preparations for the conference, the Organizing Committee received 59 papers from researchers and experts at universities and businesses, as well as lecturers teaching and students directly enrolled in E-learning academic programs at higher education institutions in Vietnam. The papers underwent peer review and were revised as required, resulting in 40 papers being published in the conference proceedings.

The papers provided diverse perspectives and analyzed trends and experiences in applying technology to online education in Vietnam. They proposed technological tools and solutions to enhance teaching and learning effectiveness, including research on the applications of gamification, ChatGPT, AI chatbots, blockchain, and even 3D teaching models…

The papers demonstrated a rich variety of approaches to applying technology in online education (E-learning) for undergraduate distance education programs in Vietnam, in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digital transformation in higher education.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Hieu, Vice President, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dam Quang Vinh, Director of the Center for Distance Education, present flowers to the speakers in appreciation.
