Journey Back to Our Roots: E-NEU Students From Southern and Northern Vietnam

Amid Hanoi’s autumn weather on November 16, 2024, National Economics University (NEU) welcomed a large number of alumni, including E-NEU program alumni, to attend “Journey Back to Our Roots: E-NEU Students from Southern and Northern Vietnam.”

On behalf of the University’s leadership, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong welcomed E-NEU students and alumni from southern and northern Vietnam who had gathered for the “Journey Back to Our Roots” at NEU.

Assoc. Prof. Bui Huy Nhuong shared that the program arose from the needs and wishes of many students in NEU-Elearning classes in Ho Chi Minh City and northern Vietnam for an event where students from across the country could meet, interact, and connect. This was the first time the Center for Distance Education had organized a program called “Journey Back to Our Roots,” offering students in NEU-Elearning classes further opportunities to interact and connect, as well as to visit the educational facilities and understand the significance and value of the university where they study.

The journey was especially meaningful because, on November 15, the Prime Minister had signed a Decision approving a change in NEU’s institutional status from “truong dai hoc” to “dai hoc,” bringing great joy to the University’s faculty and students on the occasion of the 42nd anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers’ Day.

Assoc. Prof. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President, expressed confidence that “Back to Our Roots” journeys in the years ahead would attract large numbers of students and alumni from different cohorts of the program. He also wished the alumni good health, happiness, and continued success in their careers, encouraging them to bring the image of NEU to every part of the country.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dam Quang Vinh, Director of the Center for Distance Education, speaks and shares his thoughts at the program.

Today’s journey back to our roots is not only an opportunity for E-NEU alumni and students to express their appreciation and gratitude to their teachers, but also a chance for us to sit together and recall beautiful memories with teachers and friends, and share experiences from our time with NEU. At this meaningful reunion, representatives of different generations of E-NEU students shared their thoughts and expressed gratitude to the University and the teachers who had guided generations of E-NEU students and helped their dreams soar higher and farther.

Degrees for the NEU-Elearning bachelor’s program are conferred by NEU, which has assigned the Center for Distance Education to manage the program directly. The program aims to enhance learners’ knowledge, skills, autonomy, and personal responsibility.

Guided by the principle of “Putting learners at the center,” the NEU-Elearning program gives students access to the most advanced learning methods available today, helping them take an active role in their learning.

The journey back to our roots concluded with a gala evening bringing together teachers, E-NEU students, and alumni. Held in a warm and cheerful atmosphere, the gala brought the emotional journey to a close, leaving lasting impressions and beautiful images in the memory of each E-NEU student.

Earlier, as part of the E-NEU students’ and alumni’s “Journey Back to Our Roots,” the group visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and President Ho Chi Minh’s residence and workplace, where they heard about his illustrious revolutionary career and exceptionally modest way of life. This activity was particularly meaningful and moving for the students from southern Vietnam, some of whom were visiting the capital and President Ho Chi Minh’s residence and workplace for the first time.
