Scientific Seminar: “Informal Institutions, Technology, Environmentally Friendly Behavior, and Sustainable Development”
On the afternoon of December 12, 2024, the Academic Committee of the English-taught Doctoral Program (E-PhD) and the Institute for Sustainable Development at National Economics University (NEU) organized the annual scientific seminar “Yearly E-PhD Seminar” – YES 2024, themed “Informal Institutions, Technology, Environmentally Friendly Behavior, and Sustainable Development.”
An overview of the seminar
Attending the seminar were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President of NEU; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Canh, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development; leadership representatives from departments, faculties, institutes, and centers; faculty members on the E-PhD Program Academic Committee; PhD candidates; reviewers; and experts from various universities and research institutes.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong, Vice President of NEU, delivers the opening remarks.
In his opening remarks at the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong stated: “This is the fifth annual seminar of the E-PhD program, initiated by the E-PhD Program Academic Committee. The seminar is an academic forum for PhD candidates, early-career lecturers, and researchers to exchange ideas, share knowledge, and build research networks. This is an important event not only for NEU but also for everyone passionate about research.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Huy Nhuong also emphasized: “The E-PhD program has been running for seven years and currently has 54 PhD candidates enrolled. To date, 15 PhD candidates have successfully defended their doctoral dissertations, and 31 research papers by E-PhD candidates, as lead authors with NEU listed as their institutional affiliation, have been published in reputable journals. Many other manuscripts and research papers are currently under review. This seminar is a valuable opportunity for PhD candidates to present their research findings to professors, experts, and peers and receive feedback to improve their papers. It is also an occasion to affirm the program’s excellence and reinforce NEU’s commitment to international academic integration.”
The seminar focused on an academic topic of considerable interest: informal institutions, technology, environmentally friendly behavior, and sustainable development. It comprised two sessions featuring nine research presentations that contributed to our understanding of this field of research. The seminar offered PhD candidates an opportunity to receive valuable feedback and engage in discussions with reviewers, helping them refine their research for publication in reputable international journals.

The program’s initial results are attributable to the tremendous efforts of its PhD candidates, support from the University, the effective work of Academic Committee members, and the passion and tireless efforts of professors, faculty members, and PhD candidates. The fifth annual YES seminar was held successfully. It provided a forum for academic exchange between PhD candidates and scholars, gradually advancing the academic integration of NEU’s academic programs and research.
