On December 18, 2024, National Economics University (NEU) held a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the Journal of Economics and Development. For many years, the Journal of Economics and Development (JED) has been a pioneering journal in reform and international integration, applying the most rigorous scientific publishing procedures, regulations, and standards, as well as publishing high-quality scientific research and becoming a trusted scholarly forum for researchers and managers in Vietnam and around the world.

Also attending were former University leaders and former Editors-in-Chief of the Journal of Economics and Development from various periods; members of the Science and Training Council and the Editorial Board; representatives of the leadership of schools, departments, faculties, institutes, and centers; and generations of staff of the Journal of Economics and Development.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, President of NEU, noted that, as NEU’s scholarly publication, the Journal of Economics and Development has published high-quality scientific research over the past 30 years, becoming a trusted scholarly forum for researchers and managers nationwide.

Through these efforts, the journal has not only made important contributions to improving the quality of education and scientific research at NEU, helping the University become a national key university and a leading research-oriented university in economics, but has also contributed to the development of economic science in Vietnam.

In particular, the journal’s English-language edition was officially indexed in the prestigious Scopus citation database in late 2023 and went on to be indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) in 2024. This outstanding achievement has brought NEU’s name to the global scientific community. Meanwhile, the journal’s Vietnamese-language edition has continued to maintain its standing and influence in Vietnamese society. “These achievements, of which we are proud, are the result of the hard work, enthusiasm, and tireless dedication of generations of journal leaders and staff,” Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong affirmed.

In light of new demands in the development of the country and NEU, Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong called on the Journal of Economics and Development to set goals for its English-language edition in the coming period: maintaining its position in international citation databases, gradually improving its scientific quality, and moving toward a stronger, firmly established presence in global academia.

For its Vietnamese-language edition, the journal needs to continue improving and refining its peer review and publishing processes and expanding its domestic influence. It should remain a valuable resource for scholars as well as a source of theoretical support for policymakers, businesses, and the academic and research community in Vietnam.

Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong affirmed that NEU is committed to continuing to provide strong support through all available resources, now and in the future, to enable the Journal of Economics and Development to accomplish this challenging task. He also expressed confidence that the journal would grow more strongly and make more practical contributions to the University’s education and scientific research, thereby contributing to the country’s development.

Reflecting on the journal’s 30 years of operation, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hung, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Economics and Development, shared that its first 30 years, beginning with its first issue in 1994, have been closely linked to a dynamic period of reform and integration, marked by profound changes throughout Vietnam’s economy and society. The journal’s achievements during this period have therefore made practical contributions to the sustainable development of NEU in particular and the country as a whole.

“Looking back on three decades of establishment and development, the staff of the Journal of Economics and Development are immensely proud of their achievements and even more delighted that these achievements have made practical contributions to the overall development of NEU, Vietnam’s scientific journal community, and, more broadly, the country,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hung shared.

Highlighting the words of former Editor-in-Chief Prof. Dr. Sc. Luong Xuan Quy, “The University’s development is the foundation for the journal’s development,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hung said that the Journal of Economics and Development could not have attained its current achievements without NEU’s vision and effective investment. Other important support has included resources from the Ministry of Education and Training’s projects to upgrade scientific journals, guidance and attention from relevant agencies, and enthusiastic support from the economic research community in Vietnam and abroad.

“To achieve the goals entrusted to us by the University, the journal’s staff and editors will continuously strive to enhance their professional expertise, uphold professionalism and publishing ethics, adhere to the most rigorous scientific publishing standards, and carry forward the proud traditions of previous generations, taking the Journal of Economics and Development to new heights,” Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Hung affirmed.

On the occasion of the Journal of Economics and Development’s 30th anniversary, the Minister of Education and Training awarded Certificates of Merit to the journal and two individuals for their outstanding achievements in building and developing the journal. In addition, the President of NEU issued a decision to commend individuals who have made substantial contributions to the journal’s development over the 30 years since its establishment, and to commend the collective and individuals who actively contributed to securing the journal’s inclusion in ESCI (WoS).
